SOCIAL Cancer drug discovery has provided cancer patients with the best cancer treatment available. Many more drugs are already in the screening stage, preparing to help save even more lives. However, some limitations and restrictions have slowed down efforts to fight cancer. For example, potential cancer drugs may show promising results in killing tumors, but it also may have dangerous health effects. Many drugs have been rejected for this reason. How would you feel if your tumor was significantly decreased, but at the cost of developing heart problems? This is why years and years of screening are required before a proposal is presented for approval. Some believe that the years of research lead to spontaneous discoveries, but scientists see that the years of research lead only to the benefits of hard work. POLITICAL Cancer drug discovery is a big topic in politics because many people develop cancer each year due to environmental and/or genetic factors. The government assumes responsibility in approving possible cancer drugs because it affects the citizens of the government. The purpose of a government is to protect the rights of its citizens, right? ECONOMIC Cancer drug discovery has a tremendous impact on our economy. Developing a drug costs about $900 million over an average of about 10-12 years. Many scientists pursue this industry because it yields a lot of money in profits. Those who are affected by cancer are willing to pay almost any price to receive the best treatment. This means that profits are infinite. As long as cancer exists and cancer drugs can be produced, profits will continue to grow. The competition among different companies leads to only the most remarkable products that can save countless lives. |
