In biotechnology, drug discovery is the process of developing new drugs through research of and experimentation with living organisms. Despite its limitations, drug discovery has led to the development of many new and vital drugs.
I have chosen to focus on cancer drug discovery, a specific area of drug discovery, because I have always had a keen interest in cancer since I was a child. Cancer was first introduced to me when my great aunt was diagnosed with stomach cancer. After having to see and hear the pain that she was in during her last few days, I thought that that it would be the greatest thing to learn about and perhaps one day be involved in cancer drug discovery. Maybe one day I can be the one to save a life from going through such pain and agony.
Cancer drug discovery involves an intricate process of research, experimentation, and modification; however, I would like to present cancer drug discovery in the most simple way I can. Even though cancer drug discovery sounds complex, it doesn't mean that researching the basics has to be, right?
