Proud of Making Cantonese Stand-up Comedy in Chinatown
Previous Our Own Events:
意念Show 1之“Show 中之Show” (July 13th, 2002)
“Show of the Show” of
DeBext Show 1 @ Hall of CCBA
DeBext
Show 1 was the first public show we did in Chinatown.
Before that we had a private show at Lok’s house with 5 audiences. Show 1 was
mainly divided into three parts, which are stand-up comedy by Lok and Robin,
solo stand-up comedies by Barry, Robin and Lok, and singing performance by
Barry Robin and Lok. Since this was the first public show by DeBext Group
Production, the basic idea of the show would be introducing our innovative
performance to Chinese community by presenting stand-up comedies in Cantonese and
the talents we had. We used social problems and the ambiguities of daily life
as our contents to disclose the misfits of the society.
We will have
the pictures of Show 1 coming soon..
意念Show 2之“末路英雄” (May
10th & 11th, 2003)
“What Sky Beneath?” of DeBext Show 2 @ Hall of CCBA
DeBext
Show 2 was the second public show we did in Chinatown.
Based on the experience and talents we had, Show 2 was mainly divided into two
parts, which are solo stand-up comedies by Robin, Isabella, Barry and Lok, and
a stage drama by new participants. The theme of the show was talking about how
people could survive in a changing world. In other words, people needed to
upgrade themselves in order to keep playing the game of life. On the other
hand, we recruited many new people as performers and backstage crews for our
first time stage drama.
We will have
the pictures of Show 2 coming soon.
意念Show 3之“初前戀後” (July
24th, 2003)
“What Is Love?” of DeBext Show 3 @ Yello Bar & Restaurant
DeBext
Show 3 was the third public show we did in Chinatown.
Show 3 was like a special edition of our production, which only contained a
solo stand-up comedy by Lok and was also the first time we moved our production
from a formal stage to a bar. Performing in a bar would be totally different
from performing on stage because the distance between the performer and the
audience would be much closer and more interaction. Lok, an experienced
comedian in Chinatown, used a guy’s love story to reveal some love problems
among the young generation in various interesting ways.
We will have
the pictures of Show 3 coming soon.
意念Show 4之“我愛唐人街” (December
1st, 2nd & 8th, 2004)
“I Love Chinatown” of DeBext
Show 4 @ Yello Bar & Restaurant and Seven Days Café
DeBext
Show 4 was the fourth public show we did in Chinese communities, which included
Chinatown and Flushing. Show 4 was also the
first time we put our performance in different locations because we wanted to
try if our production could attract other people. Show 4 contained three parts,
which were solo stand-up comedies by Billy, Lok Man, Barry and Robin, musical
performance during the intermission, and movie clips at the end. Movie making
was a pretty new idea in our production. Fortunately we had Hong, our dear
friend, to support our idea, and Lok, Alan and Robin were in charge of writing
three different sessions. The theme of Show 4 was coming from the idea of
supporting our Chinatown. Since the tragedy of
911, Chinatown became quieter than before and less and less tourists and people
came to Chinatown. That’s why we wanted to attract
more people to Chinatown by producing our
performance.
We will have
the pictures of Show 4 coming soon.
