Mer Zalben (Mer to her friends) is a young human woman in
her mid 20’s. Her dress and appearance is nondescript, and if one saw her they would be hard
pressed to describe her later if asked to do so. Mer is not particularly sociable, gregarious, or
outgoing. Her demeanor tends to be reclusive and deferential as she gives the appearance of
following the lead of other party members. She would be best described as unobtrusive and
reserved. An astute observer however will notice that she is very cognoscente of her
surroundings, tends to try and keep herself out of the way of potential harm, and avails herself
to all opportunities. That being said, she is not afraid of inserting her influence into a
conflict in her own, not ineffective fashion.
Mer doesn’t share her thoughts or feelings easily. She
will contribute to the planning of an adventure to the degree that she feels necessary for
success, or at least for her to escape unharmed. She has seldom been seen employing weapons
in actual conflict, relying instead on her considerable array of mystical skills.
She keeps company with a man called Michaelson, a
somewhat dour and physically violent individual. Their relationship is a mystery, but she
frequently intercedes to calm confrontational situations that Michaelson himself instigates. He,
in turn, seems to have some protective instincts toward Mer. Some have speculated that Mer may
be holding him under a magical spell. It’s also known that Mer has an owl as a pet.
Although she is fairly young for an adventuress, she
has, from time to time, solicited adventurer parties to assist her in accomplishing specific
missions that she has researched. Usually these have resulted in success, although frequently
the causality rates are high.
Mer will join a party if it suits her and is coincident
with her goals, whatever those goals may be.
