Bio written by Gary G.
Johnathon Greaves thinks of himself as an ordinary human
man, or at least he used to. In fact, to look at him there is nothing remarkable about his
countenance. He’s not a brute, a scholar, athlete, artist, or Adonis. But, what he lacks in
those areas, he more than makes up for in piousness.
His father, being an acolyte in the service of Helm - god
of justice, had opened the doors of the secular world to John at an early age, and John rushed
in. He had found something he not only could excel at, but some thing he enjoyed. With his
father's guidance, he quickly developed a strong sense of duty and devotion to his god and temple.
These good times were to be relatively short lived
however. When he was twelve years old, he and his parents attended the annual fall harvest
celebration, as they did every year. But, this year there were uninvited guests. John watched
helplessly as his parents and many others were slaughtered by a band of brigands. The militant
Helmites sought their justice, and won it, but John was overwhelmed with grief and self pity for
not being strong enough to defend his parents or his friend’s parents. On that day, John swore
that he would not helplessly watch innocents be killed again nor fail to protect those he cared
for.
The temple took him in and continued his training as
payment for his father’s service. To make up for his lack of strength and dexterity, John
re-doubled his efforts in secular studies. Muscles or not, he also took to the shield and mace,
determined to smite any who would threaten those whom he befriended. No, he would not be caught
unprepared again!
Several years later, John has left the temple to seek
knowledge about himself and others. Befriending a group of adventurers, he now feels part of a
family again after all this time. He has fought valiantly in defense of theirs and other’s lives
on more than one occasion, even dying for them once. But this family too will be put to the test
(as well as John’s sanity) when he becomes infected with lycanthropy.
Upon reflecting on the different myths regarding the
disease and how the infected one victimizes innocents during full moons, he considers suicide.
Has he become what he despises most, a murderer? Thanks to other party members, and through some
strange miracle or through shear devotion to his god, John discovers that he has some element of
control during the full moon. So far, he hasn’t murdered anyone - nor been inclined to, but at
least one party member seems to still despise him, or fear him. He is currently torn between
leaving the party or staying on to see what his god has in store for his fate.
