Jerome Beauregard (J.B.) Cole
Player Character Bio
Player: Dave P.; Campaign: Darwin's Realm
Bio written by Dave P.

"Be polite, be professional, but be prepared to kill everyone in sight."

JB to his friends, is human, male, and of ambiguous age somewhere in his mid to late 30’s. He says he doesn’t remember ever being told the exact year he was born. His mother was a drunken harlot who died giving birth to him in the backroom of a squalid tavern. The innkeeper of that establishment saw him as a cheap source of future labor and so kept and raised him accordingly.

Early in his adolescence JB grew to realize the futility of his future if he remained the indentured servant of the innkeeper. Late one night, during a thunderstorm, the inn caught fire and the innkeeper, along with several drunken guests, died in the ensuing blaze that swept through the structure with unusual speed. JB managed to escape the conflagration but, with no place to turn, he took to the streets, stealing what he could, sleeping where possible, and looking for a way to climb out of the world of street urchins.

Possessing neither imposing stature nor exceptional presence, he never-the-less is quick of thought and unafraid to gamble if he determines the odds to be in his favor. By watching the other gutter rats with which he shared the streets and alleys, he learned survival techniques that where successful, and by watching the dire circumstances of others who were caught, which ones weren’t.

By the time JB was in his twenties, he had established a small business relating to wealth redistribution. Additionally, he had discovered the realm of those individuals who often traveled through town telling of mighty adventures and great treasures. After a number of such trips to sample the “Adventurer Lifestyle”, JB concluded that most of the bravado talk was bullshit, and the remainder of the tails were exaggerated. He also came to an enhanced sense of distrust for others, a sense already honed by his early years.

After several semi-prosperous years as measured by a warm dry bed and food on a daily basis, and avoiding any terminal entanglements with the law, JB came to realize that real power lay with social, technical, and political knowledge. He began to seek formal education, reading, writing, and other such esoteric studies. Being inquisitive and sharp of thought, he found a knack for calling and managing the archain energies that surround us and that are entwined with the very fabric of existence. Although not forgetting skills he learned early on in life, he seems to be focusing on his newfound interests.

JB has, for the past several years, lived in an upper-middle class tavern/inn in the city of Trazarra. From time to time he will accompany adventurer parties if he determines they are not too incompetent and the chance of his returning successful is sufficient to warrant the risks. He has been known to risk injury to protect or save party members but similarly he has been known to use party members as bait to win a confrontation. He strives to ensure that the party has purloined every tactical advantage prior to committing to battle.

JB is cautious and aware of his surroundings. His dress is unpretentious and his visage is similarly unremarkable, a style that suits him well as one who often works in the shadows. He likes to gamble and, although no one has proven it, some say he cheats. He enjoys the comforts of city life, the food, the drink, and the women, and strives to maintain a comfortable life style.
