Transforming into an Oozaru boosts a novice Saiyan's power level up substantially. For novice Saiyans (with power levels from 1 to less than 100,000), transforming into an Oozaru adds an extra 0 digit to their power level (eg. Vegeta's power level was 18,000 when he first fought Goku, but when he transformed into an Oozaru, his power level increased to 180,000). Only Saiyans with their tail still attached to their body will transform into Oozarus, and only when the moonlight is shone on them will this transformation take place. This also can occur with artificial moonlight. An Oozaru is a giant, gorilla-like creature. It is the primal version of a Saiyan. Usually, when a Saiyan is transformed into an Oozaru, his body and mind aren't strong enough to handle the immense power, so he cannot control himself, and begins to rampage. Only experienced Saiyans can control this form. An Oozaru will deevolve back into a normal Saiyan if the tail is chopped off or abused in any way to cause the Saiyan pain, if the moonlight disappears, or sometimes it'll just occur randomly.
