Saiyans are a race consisting of beings with traits of both a human, and an ape. This race began on a planet known as Vegeta. Due to the intense gravity, and harsh storms that are a common occurrance on this planet, Saiyans have responded to their adaptation by being born with a gene that automatically gives them a massive muscle span. Their muscle growth usually occurs around age 6. Since Saiyans are a fighting race, each Saiyan has immense strength, to be able to combat with ease. Saiyans consist of both male and female genders. The males tend to be considerably stronger than the females, since the males tend to be more obsessed with combat. As well as the fact that males generally have a much larger muscle mass than females, and male bodies tend to be able to withstand much more damage than that of a female's.
A regular Saiyan originally starts off with a tail. This tail is a novice Saiyan's primary weakness, and if grabbed will cause immense pain to the Saiyan's nerves. Only one cell in a fetal Saiyan's body contains the tail gene. This cell reproduces itself consistantly before the Saiyan is born, and all of the tail-gene cells form the tail. Since the tail gene only lies within the tail itself, if the tail happens to become fully detached from the Saiyan's internal body, it will not grow back, and any future children that the Saiyan has may not be born with the tail gene. If that Saiyan has a child with a Human, there won't be any tail at all.
As mentioned before, Saiyans tend to be quite a strong race. A Saiyan's power level ranges anywhere from 1 to around 1 million (only if undergone extensive training will a normal Saiyan achieve a power level of 1 million). If a full moon arises, a normal Saiyan that still has its tail will evolve into a giant, gorilla-like Saiyan called an Oozaru. Oozarus take on the ape traits of the Saiyan.
Normal Saiyans have black pupils in their eyes, and their hair style stays constant throughout their entire life. Saiyan hair is always black. If a half-Saiyan is born, it will not have the hair-consistancy gene, and its hair may vary in colour. In a half-Saiyan, the Saiyan genes are always dominant, which means the newborn Saiyan will inharit all of the Saiyan traits, except for the tail and hair consistancy traits, which could still possibly be inharited, depending on the circumstances.
If undergoing the toughest of intensive training, or emotional struggle, a Saiyan may evolve into a Super Saiyan.
