| THE ARTIST |
Derek Bracegirdle was born in Kaimata, Taranaki, New Zealand.
In 1981 he graduated from the Wellington School of Design with a diploma in visual communication.
In 1983 he established his own graphic design business in New Plymouth.
In 1989 he began experimenting with black and white pointillism, producing his first picture with a felt tip pen.
Then, using a technical pen, he began producing a series of native bird illustrations.
Shortly after he received his first commission, a picture of two Kokako.
In 1991 he received his first commission to illustrate a house which has since led on to a range of different commissions including a stag, a girl and her horse, and even a pair of feet!
About half his work is now made up of commissions.
His first love continues to be native birdlife. Derek works from a studio at his home in New Plymouth. |
