| MURALS |
Murals are a great way to attract attention, advertise, enhance a building or an area.
As well as adding value to a site they can usually stop the graffiti that can plague bland outside walls.
Derek painted his first mural in 1987 and since then has completed over twenty-two.
They range in length from three metres to over forty-eight metres, the tallest reaching nearly three storeys high.
His murals are painted in a range of different effects, from stylised and realistic to trompe l'oeil*.
He has painted shop fronts and interiors, video windows, street walls, sports clubs, garden walls, and the sides of buildings.
If you happen to be in the North Taranaki area, take a look at three of his more recent works: the waterfall on the garden wall on Mahoe St, Inglewood: the mural on the outside of the West End Bowling club on Cutfield St, New Plymouth; and the mural on the street wall of the RSA.
