Listening to: Studio 360 on NPR.
Reading: The Man Who Fell in Love with the Moon ~ Tom Spanbauer. This is a good book so far. The main character is a half ~ breed boy who took over his mother's job (eventually in all respects) in a whorehouse after she died and how 'family' isn't always the one you're born with. I like what the cowboy says: all most people do is tell themselves the story of who they are. Yep. Most folks are so busy telling themselves 'this is the way I am' that they don't bother to see if it's true or not.
Other new acquisitions:
Hearts in Atlantis ~ Stephen King
Gifts of an Eagle ~ Kent Durden
The One Hundred and One Best Songs ~ the Cable Company (pub. 1925)
First Book of Songs ~ Robert Foresman (also published in 1925)
Misadventures in Adams
My poor, neglected journal.
Of course, when I needed to journal the most I felt that I couldn't write at all. I couldn't even write in my offline journal, even though no one would see it. It's hard to write when you feel so exposed and open for useless criticism...I hate that. I really, really hate that. Oh, and did I mention that I hate that?
You know what? I don't care. The point of this journal was to break out and be myself ~ anyone who doesn't like that can just...go screw a rock. (Heh. Thinking of Clive Barker now...)
YAY!!! The new Harry Potter movie comes out next week!!! First Harry, then The Two Towers and finally, Star Trek: Nemesis! Whoo hoo! (Hey ~ no one ever said that I had to get excited only over toney, uber serious movies with philosophical themes. You never know where inpsiration and wisdom is to be found, y'know. Besides, it's fun! Heh ~ can't be a lover of Kokopelli without knowing how to fun!)
:::Snicker::: 'a lover of Kokopelli'? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! There are worse dieties to be lovers of, I suppose. Just as long as we have an understanding about there being no little Kokopellis (or, as human ones are known ~ spawns of Satan) issuing from my loins.
I finally got to go to Adams, Tennessee yesterday. I really wanted to to to the Bell witch cave and Bell home site but they were closed for the season. Damn. My mom wanted to go to an antique mall that is situated in an old school building, so...we did. Heh. I did see the historical marker there ~ there have been several reports of folks trying to take a picture of it, only to have the photo come back and the sign appearing to have a roaring fire at the base of it. Too bad I forgot to take my camera. That would be interesting to see if anything showed up on digital media.
The place was interesting. They had the antique booths, a tea room, a cafeteria, a museum and a 'regional self - help loan library' (meaning it was three shelves of books that you simply picked up and returned yourself.) There were two spots in the place that had 'wierd' vibes to them, but I don't know if there was anything actually to it. B. went with us and as soon as we walked in the door, he was talking about the 'funny' feel of the place. No way of knowing if I was influenced by that or the general reputation of the place. One room felt as if there was 'something' in it ~ and only in that room. Upstairs, in two rooms, I suddenly got sleepy. Granted, it could have been dust (but I really didn't see that much) and we had eaten lunch before we got there (but shouldn't I have gotten sleepy before then since it was a 30+ minute ride from Springfield?) In any case, it would be interesting to go back, just to see if anything repeats itself.
The musuem was interesting because there was a coffin in there, representative of the kind they would have used in the late 1800's and early 1900's. It even had a 'door' on it that you could swing over in order to see the person in the coffin. I still think that they should have put a mannequin in the thing...for dramatic effect, of course.
Damn it, I didn't even get to do my usual Samhain ritual. It's the only real ritual that I do and it doesn't feel right not to do it. Again, I say: damn it.
