Yay! I've got my library card from the school library ~ borrowing priviledges forever, as long as I use the card! Whoo hoo! The nerd in me is very happy.
Just borrowed:
- The Classic Arabian Horse ~ Judith Forbis
- Mammals of the Southeast
Listening to:
NPR. The Todd Mundt show was great today ~ the subject was bellydancing. They went a bit into the history and the differences between bellydancing for a small audience and on stage, as well as why what we mostly know as bellydancing is incorrect. Of course, they couldn't go as much into as I wanted since it was only an hour long.
God, I need a Cure fix. What did I do with my copy of Disintegration?
Damn. Damn damn damn damn damn damndamndamndamndamndamndamn DAMN! You know, sometimes I really don't know what is going on in my brain. I had a major test yesterday in Algebra and I think I blew it. I know the material. I know all the little rules and properties. Yet, I took one look at the thing and my mind went blank. After making a 92 on the prep quiz on Friday, my mind goes blank. Sheesh. I thought I had recovered fairly well...until late afternoon when I realized that instead of properly multiplying and dividing those lovely fractions, I went LCD (lowest common denominator) mad. Reciprocals? We don't need no stinkin' reciprocals ~ we'll just factor those puppies down and find the LCD!
Speaking of LCD, here's a neat webcomic called just that. That Raven is something else.
I did talk to my instructor about it, as well as the possibility of extra credit. He's one of these folks that doesn't believe in extra credit or rather, his philosophy is that as long as you do the best you can on the homework, quizzes and tests, that is enough. He also said that he has graded the first two pages (of five) of everyone's test and there haven't been any major problems as far as he can see.
Here's to dumb luck and continued success on the homework and quizzes. So far, I've got seven homework grades of one hundred, one quiz grade of eighty nine and another of ninety two. If that eighty nine is thrown out (as one quiz will be), I'll have an A. I've never considered myself to be very concerned about stuff like that, as long as I did my best but damn, that A looks mighty fine.
I should also remember to grab something to eat before I head out to class ~ during the quiet moments today, my belly decided to imitate the rumbling T-Rex from Jurassic Park. Come to think of it ~ I haven't eaten yet. Hmmm...
I think I'll heat up some pasta para duros for tomorrow. That stuff is great! I found it in, of all places, the produce section of Wally World. You put these hard little wheel shaped things in the microwave, no water or anything. Three minutes later, they come out all fluffy and good, like grease free cheetos. Well, o.k., they come out cheese free too, but you get the point.
As for the decision to deny my carnivorous nature ~ so far, so good. I haven't really missed it at all. Of course, it's only been what ~ three days? Still, I'm fortified with some good Morningside (is that what they're called? Morning something...) Grillers, vadalia onions (I love those things! I ought to stock up before the price goes through the roof. They're only grown in one place in Georgia and they lost sixty percent of the harvest this year.) and several other things.
You know, there is this one vadalia (is it vadalia or vedalia? Or none of the above?) farm that you'd think that they would have considered a name change before they went public. Somehow Bland Farms just doesn't sound very appealing.
O.k...no big dissertations today. I have to answer an email about my entry on evolution ~ the writer thought my view on things is a little harsh. Perhaps that will be tomorrow's entry...we'll see.
