Kill Capula

“No” Corik said. “You deserve death for what you’ve done to the Republic, what you’ve done to the Jedi, what you did to Jethra.” He felt strong, stronger than he had felt back on Topan before all this happened, stronger than anything that this man or all of the Capula industry could throw at him.
“Pity that you’ve chosen the same fate as your old friend. You’ll be seeing him soon.” Deneg began to smile, displaying a malicious smirk of victory.
“You’re wrong, Deneg. Your reign of power is over!” Corik couldn’t believe his words, nor the anger that swelled inside him. He reached for his lightsaber and immediately began swinging towards the Sith Lord.
Capula was surprised at the Jedi’s reaction, his bewildered face showed it. However, Deneg reached in the same motion, turning his lightsaber back at Corik’s. Corik saw the familiar sight of a red beam of energy ignite and clash with his yellow one, creating a glowing orange color where the two collided. Corik remembered his encounter with that red blade back on Topan, and the thought gave him chill. “Let your fear drive you!” Deneg shouted as he ferociously fought Corik, matching swing after swing of the best shots the young Jedi could muster.
Corik knew he couldn’t give in to his fear, or let his anger control him. He took a deep breath, remembering the defensive style Master Edem had taught him to use. He didn’t give Capula an inch, and covered himself well. This fight would be a long one.
They went at it for perhaps ten minutes. Deneg’s blows were hard, and though he exposed weak points on them, Corik could never recover in time to get to them. After that, things changed. Deneg began controlling objects around the room as he fought, sending them at Corik from different directions. His lightsaber fighting was less aggressive by then, but the objects more than compensated. Corik had to adjust and readjust to avoid colliding with the sometimes half ton pieces of metal.
But still, nobody gave way to injury, and Deneg resorted to drastic measures. He launched forward, unexpectedly. The move would have been a foolish one, for it exposed almost his entire body to attack. However, Corik was caught completely off guard. It was over, and Corik closed his eyes, waiting for the blow to strike. He heard a clash, but no pain. He looked to see Master Edem standing between him and Deneg. Deneg had a look of true fear on his face, not ready to face two Jedi. But in a fluent motion, he pushed Master Edem back with his saber and sent a thundering shock of electricity upon him, throwing him against the wall yet again, knocking him out cold. Corik took the opportunity, and before Deneg could move away Corik had removed his head in a well placed slash. It was over…

Corik walked over to Master Edem. He wasn’t moving, and the burn marks from the electricity were numerous and large. Corik’s fears were confirmed as he checked Master Edem’s vitals to find no pulse or heartbeat. He sat there weeping for a long while, unable to come to grips with the loss of his mentor and good friend. When he did recover, he thought about what would happen next. He had killed President Capula, the leader of the Republic’s economy, and the blame would rest on the Jedi. He feared the worst.
And as Corik feared, the uproar was great. The Senate refused to believe Corik’s story about the death of President Capula, for the video shown of the encounter had been edited to look like an assasination. The death was recorded as assassination, a planned attempt by the Jedi Council to take over control of Capula. The Council was put under arrest, and each Jedi served 5 years in prison, Corik spending 10 for the personal carrying out of the “plans” for the crime. Capula was shut down due to lack of leadership and financial depression arose. The Senate worked to restore order, and despite the rough times those first few years following that day of change, the Republic was in for a better future.
Corik saw that future out. Years later he was released from prison, and it took decades after that before the people and the Senate began trusting the Jedi again as keepers of the pace. However, the Jedi’s numbers grew, and true justice, order, and peace began to service the Republic in full like never before. Corik died after ninety years of strong and honorable service. It took almost till his death to fully forgive himself for not being able to save his friends. But after becoming one with the Force, he reunited with Jethra and Master Edem, never to separate or lose them again.
