The Four Machine Parts
Corik pulled out the four parts he had managed to obtain earlier in his journey: the power converter, engine coupling, charged crystal, and shield plating. He reached into belt pouch of wires, chips, and small parts and began constructing a small robot as he waited. Back on Topan he had learned some mechanics, and Master Edem had helped him learn some of these skills as well.
“Master Edem” Corik sobbed again, still unable to control his emotions. The droid reminded him all the more of what his mentor had given him in addition to helping in learn the ways of the Force. Corik was truly thankful, but wished all his skills could have somehow saved his teacher’s life.
What would he do now? When they found President Capula missing, they would assume Corik was the cause. He had no proof against it, and any videos would be edited by Capula to convict him. He needed a way to get that video.
He turned to the bot. Of course! he thought. He walked over to a small terminal with a screen on it and the tiny astro-droid plugged itself in. It surfed through video files throughout the entire complex, and stopped on the one of the maintenance room of level 3. “That’s it!” Corik shouted in excitement to himself, and had the unit download it for evidence to the court.
When Corik returned, there was little uproar. The Senate believed the story the Jedi told about President Capula because of the evidence, which was both shocking to the court and the people as a whole. Instead of shutting down Capula, new leadership was acquitted to members of the former resistance, under the supervision of the Jedi Council. The Council began to give Capula a less important but nevertheless beneficial role to the Republic. Huge detachments from the secret Capula military were sent to destroyed and attacked planets as medical and rebuilding aids rather than invasion forces. The Senate and Council worked to restore order, and within a short time the galaxy was brought under peace and control once again.
Corik lived the rest of his life through this time of peace and prosperity. The Jedi’s numbers grew, and true justice, order, and harmony was thus secured for the Republic in full like never before. Corik died after one hundred and thirty years of strong and honorable service. It took almost him years to fully forgive himself for not being able to save his friends. But after becoming one with the Force, he reunited with Jethra and Master Edem, never to separate or lose them again.
