Buffy and Anya regain consciousness and see Giles standing in the doorway. Willow, who is wiping blood from her nose, nastily remarks that 'daddy's home', and that she's in 'wicked trouble'.
Giles commands her to stay down, using magic to force her compliance.
Willow manages to get up and tells Buffy that she no longer wants to fight her, she now wants to fight Giles!
Giles throws a spell of green energy at Willow, which pins her arms to her sides and lifts her off the floor, immobilising her.
Seemingly safe from Willow, Giles, Buffy and Anya embrace. When Giles tells her that he is sorry about Tara, Willow mumbles that the spell won't be able to hold her forever!
Buffy and Giles go into the training room to talk. Buffy falteringly tells him of all the stuff that has happened since he left, including her relationship with Spike. It is at this point that Giles breaks down laughing. Buffy quickly joins in.
They soon start to talk seriously, with Giles apologising for leaving and Buffy telling him that it was the right thing to do. He also explains that the magics he is using where lent to him by a powerful coven in Devon. Their talk quickly turns to Willow. Giles explains that Willow may never be the same, now that she's taken human life.
Willow appears menacingly in the doorway, holding Anya up by the neck. She drops Anya and, as Buffy runs toward her, hurls a bolt of energy at Buffy which throws her through the wall behind her! Then begins a battle of magics between the Witch and Watcher.
Dawn,Xander and the two remaining Geeks, are marching aimlessley down a street, wondering where they can go. Dawn makes a remark, that Spike would know what to do. Xander takes slight at that and tells Dawn that Spike tried to rape Buffy and that he is glad that he left town. Dawn is shocked and not wanting to believe Xander.
Out of the darkness of the cave we see the head of a Demon thrown from the shadows. Spike appears, badly beaten, but carrying another Demon head in his hand. He throws it down, and, sinking to his knees, defiantly demands the next test. Strange scurrying noises can be heard, and Spike looks down in dismay. Hundreds of beetles are crawling up his body. They enter his nose and mouth and all he can do is cry out in pain and disgust.
Back at the magic shop, Giles is obviously very much weakened while Willow is still strong. She mocks Giles when he tries to reason with her, and finaly she sends a blast of killing magic at him. Just in time, Buffy appears and manages to knock Giles out of the way.
Willow picks up a glowing fireball and explains to Buffy that she can kill Jonathan, Andrew and anyone else who is with them, from here! Laughingly quoting the Wizard of Oz, she sends the fireball racing through the roof of the magic shop. Giles urgently tells Buffy to go, and she loses very little time following the fireball. Giles and Willow are now alone!
Willow seems to be enjoying torturing Giles, slamming him into the ceiling and then allowing him to crash down hard to the floor. With a flick of her finger she again sends him smashing into the ceiling, but Giles manages to retaliate with a bolt of magic before he once again hits the ground. Willow is upset by that and tells Giles she needs a 'little pick me up'! Moving quickly to Giles, Willow places her hand on his chest and begins to drain the magic out of him!
Reeling back from the now nearly unconsciouse Giles, Willow is amazed and druggily dazed at the power she has sucked from him. She marvels that she can feel everything and that no one has ever been this powerful. Slowly her face changes as she becomes aware of all the pain and suffering in the world. Making a decision to end all the suffering, she levitates out of the magic shop, leaving Giles very near death, amidst the wreckage!
Xander and the rest of the gang are in one of Sunnydales many graveyards, looking for somewhere to hide out! Looking up, Xander and Dawn are puzzled to see the fireball aproaching.Buffy appears and, warning them all to get down, throws herself into Andrew and Jonathan. The fireball crashes to the ground, forming an impact crater. Dawn, who has fallen nearest the craters edge, slips into it!
Buffy goes to try to grab Dawn, but the earth at the craters edge gives way, plunging Buffy too, into the hole. Hitting the bottom, Buffy has to quickly scramble out of the way as the Geeks swords fall onto the spot where she landed! Dawn and Buffy are both uninjured, and, looking around at the Coffins lining the walls, they realise that they must have fallen into one of the tunnels that run under Sunnydale!
Up above ground, Jonathan and Andrew go over to the craters edge and look down, but see nothing but darkness. Ignoring Xander, who lies unconscious near by, they make a decision. Mexico sounds good! They hastily leave the graveyard!
Back at the magic shop, Anya has regained consciosness and wanders into the main part of the wrecked magic shop. Spotting Giles, lying close to death amongst the rubble, she rushes over and tries to apologise for letting Willow loose, explaining that Willow had forced her using her brain! Giles expresion turns to dismay. He can feel what Willow feels and he knows what she is going to try to do. She is going to try to destroy the world!
Buffy and Dawn are trying to find a way out of the cave. The sun has risen so they can see their way better. Climbing up the coffins that line the walls proves futile. Xander appears at the mouth of the crater and Buffy asks him if he can find any rope.
Suddenly, Anya appears in front of Buffy and Dawn. She warns them that Willow is trying to end the world, using the old Satanic Temple at Kingmans Bluff to do it. When Buffy asks about Giles, Anya is reluctant to talk about him, finaly telling them that she doesn't think he has too long left, and that she aught to get back to him! She teleports back to the magic shop.
On Kingmans Bluff, Willow has managed to raise the Spire of the Satanic Temple from the ground. On the spire is an effigy of a woman entwined with a stake.
Buffy calls to Xander, but he is no longer there. In frustration, Buffy tries to build a platform of coffins in an attempt to escape the cave and stop Willow. She tells Dawn that she will not allow Willow to destroy the world that she has sworn to protect! Somehow, Buffy and Willows minds are linked and Willow can hear her. She telepathicaly tells Buffy that she is a warrior and that it is right that she should die like a warrior, fighting. Suddenly, the roots lining the cavern walls form themselves into Zombie like creatures and start to attack Dawn and Buffy!
Buffy makes a spirited attempt to fight the Zombie creatures, but there are too many of them for her to fight alone. Making a descision, she asks Dawn to help her. Dawn agrees and takes the other sword. Back to back the sisters face the Demons!
Willow starts her spell. Channeling magic through the effigy in powerful, rhythmic waves. The earth trembles and the effigy begins to glow!
The energy is suddenly halted and Xander stands between the effigy and Willow! Willow demands that Xander leave and when he refuses she zaps him with a blast of magic that knocks him to the ground.
At the magic box, Giles weakly tells Anya that it's not over yet.
Buffy and Dawn are still pitted against the Zombie demons. Dawn shows some surprising fighting skill, but there are just too many demons for the sisters to defeat!
Once again Willow starts to channel the magic at the effigy and once again Xander stands in the way, preventing it. He starts to talk to her, reminding her of their childhood and how he loves her, no matter what. Willow keeps trying to make him shut up, even resorting to visciouse magical attacks on him, but Xander continues to tell her he loves her as he steps near to her, opening his arms to her. Willows grief finaly starts to break through and as Xander finaly gets near enough to embrace her, the magic attacks give way to Willow punching Xanders chest and arms as her grief finaly takes over her. Xander hugs his distraught friend as they sink to the ground. Willow sobbing and Xander comforting as Willows black hair gradualy changes back to red.
Buffy and Dawn are surprised as the Zombie like creatures turn to dust and disappear.
Anya is sitting, head in hands, on one of the steps in the magic shop. Giles, moves, and lifts himself up on his elbows, much to Anya's amazement. She thought he was dead! Anya hastens over to him and hugs him. Giles explains to Anya that the danger is past. The magic that Willow drained from him was the very essence of 'Good magic'. It was thanks to Xander talking to Willow, and putting her back in touch with her feelings and humanity, that gave the magic time to take effect.
Buffy and Dawn are still in the cave, bruised, and dirty but safe. Buffy breaks down in tears and Dawn stares at her, commenting that she thought Buffy wanted the world to end. Buffy denies that and embraces Dawn, telling her that she doesn't want to keep the World from Dawn anymore. She wants to show it to her. That she wants to see Dawn grow up to be the strong, independant, beautiful person she knows she will be!
Dawn and Buffy climb out of the pit and walk, arm in arm into the bright sunlight, Xander hugs a grieving Willow and Anya helps a limping and weak Giles out of the wrecked magic shop.
In the darkness of the African cave, Spike lies battered and exhausted, but still determined. Hearing the voice of the Demon telling him he has endured all the trials, he rolls over and gets to his feet.
He demands to be given what he came for, to be made what he was, so that Buffy can get what she deserves!
"Very well." says the Demon "We will return your SOUL!" Swiftly, it places it's hand on Spikes chest and a blindingly bright light flows from it and into Spike, causing Spike to throw back his head and scream in pain!
