While on patrol in one of the local cemeteries, Buffy and Angel discover that the body of a teenaged girl has been stolen from her grave.
When Xander and Buffy enter the library the next day, they are amused to find Giles asking a chair out on a date, and they deduce ( correctly) that he is practicing asking Jenny out!
They tell him about the discovery of the missing body. Giles is fascinated by the different possible motives for the body snatching: corpse eater, Voodoo, Zombies... The find out that the dead person is called Meredith Todd, and Buffy goes off to ask Willow to look in the computer for information about her death.
Willow is at the " the Science fair ",talking with an acquaintance named Chris, Who always wins first place with his science projects.
His friend Eric goes up to all girls and photographs them.
Cordelia is also there and Eric photogaraphs her, as well as Willow and Buffy.
Willow finds out that Meredith was one of three Cheerleader who died recently in
a car accident. Cordelia arrives and talks about how hard it is to talk to Chris
because she thinks of his brother - (she wants  someone to ask her what she
                                          means, but nobody does! )
The Scoobies decide to open the graves of the other accident victims in order to
find out whether their corpses are also stolen.
That evening, in the cemetery, Giles and Xander dig , while Willow and Buffy picnic and discuss Angel.
Buffy asks Willow what Cordelia's fuss that  afternoon was about and finds out that Daryl Epps, the brother of Chris, a popular Football player withm whom Cordelia had a huge crush. Daryl had fallen down a mountain when climbing and died, since then his mother doesn't go out of the house anymore, and Chris has become very quiet.
Giles and Xander have meanwhile exposed the coffin. Buffy opens it - it is empty.
Meanwhile, after cheerleading practice, Cordelia goes to her car. Suddenly she hears a noise and is afraid that someone is lying in wait for her. When she hears steps nearby, she hides in a dumpster. When she looks out, she notices that her " pursuer " is Angel.
Angel is looking for Buffy and Cordelia tells him that Buffy is at the cemetery. When Cordelia tries to get out of the dumpster, she discovers a dismembered hand and realises that she is standing on the remnants of the stolen Cheerleader.
When Buffy, Willow, Xander and Giles  return to the library, They find Angel and Cordelia waiting for them. Cordelia hangs on Angels arm as they tell about finding the body in the dumpster. Angel has discovered that the parts that have been found are not complete - somebody has removed parts. Because a school dumpster was used, it is possible the offender is a pupil who would have to know anatomy quite well, because the bodies were disassembled professionally. The Scoobies decide to break open, in secret, the lockers of pupils with good scientific knowledge.
Buffy, Willow, Xander and Giles begin to break open the school lockers. In Chris' locker they find anatomy books and a newspaper cutting, about the Cheerleaders accident. In Eric's locker Buffy  discovers a picture, in which he he has used parts of pictures of women to build a picture of one woman.
Chris and Eric stand before the assembled corpse. Eric complains that they must finish very soon. He hangs up the developed photos of the Science fair -  Cordelia's photo is amongst them.
Meanwhile Giles has managed to arrange a date with Jenny for that evening. They are going to the High School Football game together
Willow, Buffy and Xander have found out in the meantime that Eric and Chris have not been to  lessons today. Giles arrives and tells them that the police have found all three heads in the dumpster - the work ofthe Frankensteins can not be complete yet.
Eric and Chris argue: Eric fears that they will lose  parts of the body to decay, if they must wait for a head. The accident with the Cheerleaders was pure luck, on which they cannot rely. Chris refuses to kill humans in order to get to a head. He asks someone in a dark corner not to force him.
The person from the corner comes out: It is Daryl Epps, who is alive and looks a
little like  Frankensteins monster.
Daryl  reminds Chris that he promised him that he wouldn't be alone. He can not
bear the isolation any longer. After hesitating Chris agrees.
Eric shows Daryl the photos: Daryl is to choose a girl. He selects Cordelia.
Buffy, Willow, Xander and Giles are in the library.
Willow examines the death notices and finds no suitable victim. So that the brain
cells are useful, A fresh head is needed, That's why the dead cheerleaders were unsuitable, their brains were already destroyed by formaldehyde . It becomes clear that Chris and Eric will commit a murder in order to complete their work. While Willow and Xander go to Erics home, Buffy goes to Chris'. Giles will meet them afterwards at the football game.
Chris' mother lets Buffy into the house, and then goes back to watching a video of Daryl playing football. She does not even know whether Chris is in the house. Buffy goes down to the basement and finds Eric's photos. She sees that in Cordelias photo the head is cut off and is stuck on an anatomy drawing. Buffy does not notice Daryl creeping from the back of the basesment, but before he can attack her, she climbs out of the basesment window and runs to the school.
In the school Chris and Eric attack Cordelia and overpower her with a sheet. But Buffy finds them, and frees Cordelia who runs immediately out to the playing field to take part in the Cheerleader pyramid. Buffy tries to talk to Chris. Chris tells Buffy that he must do it for "him": Buffy realises that he is talking about Daryl.
In Chris'basement Daryl and Eric decide to still make an attempt to kidnap Cordelia. They go together to the school. Giles and Jenny are watching the game, they flirt and argue at the same time. Willow and Xander arrive and tell them that they have found only computer and porn magazines at Erics home. Daryl in the meantime watches the game from under the stand. He sees Cordelia and  overpowers her, when she gets a drink.
In a storeroom, Eric prepares to carry out the operation, while Cordelia, who is
fully consciouse and terrified, tries to talk them out of it.
Buffy arrives and fights with Daryl. During the fight a can of petrol is overturned,
and a bunsen burner is knocked onto it.
Xander manages to get Cordelia to safety, while the lab begins to burn.
Daryl notices that the  body they have been constructing for him is beginning to
burn and he runs into the flames in despair.
Later, Angel and Buffy talk things over.
Angel admits to his jealousy of Xander, as the only time that Angel can be with Buffy is during the hours of  darkness!
