MY STORY

Chapter Two

"Okay people, today we are taking the rafts down to the river to have some fun. Everybody remember to bring your lifejackets and leave everything else here (except your clothes that it. It would be best for you to bring that.) We are going to be rafting for several hours so please make sure you have what you need," the counselor recited in a cheerful voice.

"Yay, one of us is going to drown, just like in the movies! So y'all should leave all your valuables behind just in case. You wouldn't want your jewelry to rust," joked Yenney enthusiastically.

"Shut up!" exclaimed Zabers as she playfully shoved Yenney into a nearby bush. "Ew...I feel on something red. Thanks a lot Zabers!" cried Yenney as he jumped to his feet.

"You can clean up at the river, and maybe finally take that bath that you have planned for five months," said Daf.

"Wow, I could have sworn its been at least half a year...I'm way ahead of schedule," replied Yenney.

The five people carried their rafts down to the river as they exchanged more insults. Only Zuxashi remained silient. Once again, she seemed to be staring at something that was not there. Her eyes were fixated on the road ahead of them and her dirty old boots stepped with precision. In her hands, she gingerly held the bright orange life jacket by the strap. The rest of it dragged along the dirt, leaving a trail on the ground.

"Gang way!" screamed Yenney as he skid by on his raft. His raft crashed directly into the counselor. Yenney flew out of the raft and fell head firsts into the river along with the counselor. A strong current passed by and swept the counselor downstream. Meanwhile, Yenney still has not resurfaced.

Daf, in a scared tone, "Wait, don't leave us! We need you! You can always get swept away again after we have returned safely home. COUNSELOR!!!"

"Geez, can you be anymore cliche, and what happened to Yenney. I guess I'll have to do everything by myself, as usual," said Zabers in an exasperated voice. She dived into the water and started to look for Yenney. After about an hour, she crawled out of the water, exhausted. The wet clothes clung tightly to her skin and her hair stuck to her face.

"Where...can...he...be...? I...couldn't...find...him...anywhere..."

"Shouldn't the counselor have been able to swim against the current? I mean, he is the counselor and you made it look so easy," wondered Daf.

"Forget...him...We don't...need him..."

"But I'm scared and hungry and I want to go home!" whined Daf.

Rollng her eyes, "Shut up! It's just my...luck that I got...stuck with crybaby...and Ms. Mute...over there. I'm taking charge! I say...we forget about those two...and return to... camp."

"But we can't just leave them! We have to look harder. And I don't want to be alone in the wilderness with you guys."

"Listen, if I searched for...an hour and couldn't...find Yenney, then he's... probably dead already. Accept it! And if the counselor...is still alive, he knows the way back...to camp. Besides, if he can't even pull...himself out of the water, then he's... no use to us. And what...do you mean we have to look harder?! I was the one doing...all the searching!" yelled a frustrated Zabers. In a calmer voice, "Now does anyone know the way back to camp?"

Daf shrugged.

Zabers looked at Zuxashi who point to the ground. Zabers saw a long trail in the dirt. "Is that the way back to camp?" she asked Zuxashi who nodded.

Tiredly, the three trudged back towards camp. Zabers and Daf stared intensely at the trail in the dirt to make sure they don't lose the path. Just then, Daf and Zabers crashed into a giant tree that appeared to have popped out of nowhere. Blood oozed out of Daf's nose like a roaring waterfall. He screamed in pain as if hands flew to his nose.

"Shut up Daf! And where did that come from!? I thought the raft made this trail. It couldn't have gone through the tree. What the hell is go---" Zabers stopped abruptly when she saw Zuxashi pointing at something. She walked around the tree and froze in her tracks. On the other side of the tree was a single long line that looked exactly like the one they were following.
