Hell

Hell has two caretakers that look over the daily events from the comfort of their small outpost. Their names are Mezu and Gozu. Their job is to welcome new comers to Hell. They make sure everyone feels welcome in the realm of eternal suffering. make sure no one tries too hard to escape, no one makes unnecessary trouble, and do the monotinous paper work. They report to King Emma if and when there is trouble or something goes wrong.
Hell is located beneath the clouds of Heaven. You can reach Hell one of two ways: 1) King Emma sentences you there because of your life record, 2) You fall off of Snake Way or one of the surrounding floating land masses. Once someone falls into the depths of Hell, there is no escape. Or is there? After Goku accidently fell into Hell while he was asleep on a moving vehicle, he managed to make a deal with Hell's two caretakers.
First, Gozu told Goku that if he could beat him in a wrestling match, he would give him his special flying machine which would help him escape Hell. Gozu took his massive club and drew a circle around him. The first one to push the other out of the circle won the match. It was a fierce fight, but in the end Goku won.
Gozu's flying machine turned out to be a giant see-saw. Goku stood at one end, and Gozu jumped on the other, sending Goku flying high in the air. Goku flew so high he hit his head on the invisible wall that keeps members of hell inside, and fell back to the ground.
After Gozu's failure, Mezu stepped up and told Goku that he would show him the secret exit if Goku could catch him in a race. So the race began. They raced all over Hell. High, low, on carnival rides, and over hills. Mezu was indeed a worthy opponent. He was even a little faster than Goku.
In the end, via a little trickery, Goku managed to catch Mezu while he was distracted. Mezu had to keep true to his word, so he and Gozu led Goku to the secret exit. They bid farewell to each other and Goku exited Hell (not without taking some of King Emma's sacred fruit though).
Goku followed the winding stair case that led up from Hell. After an uncountable number of stairs, he arrived at the top. Only to discover that he was back in King Emma's chambers. At the beginning of Snake Way!

Heaven

- Snake Way

In order to reach King Kaioh's planet, King Emma points Goku towards Snake Way. Snake Way is a long winding road that stretches from King Emma's check in station to King Kaioh's planet. It is said to be 1 million Kilometers long.

Snake way has tiny scales that run the whole distance of Snake Way along both sides of it's back. These scales are very sharp and will cut you very easily.
At the start of Snake Way, there is a large head of a serpeant. At the end of Snake Way is a fish-like tail.

- King Emma's Check In Station

Once Goku dies in the fight against Raditz, Kami escorts Goku's soul to a large building with the word "Welcome" accross the front. There he meets King Emma (Lord Emma). King Emma is incharge of deciding which spirits go to Heaven, and which go to Hell.
This building that King Emma resides in, is commonly reffered to as the "Checkpoint Station." Everyone who dies has to face King Emma. If they should live forever in bliss or agony is up to him.
This building is usually the first place to be seen by new arrivals.

King Emma granted Goku permission to travel down Snake Way in order to locate King Kaioh. There, he would train for the arrival of the Saiyans on Earth.
