A Brief History
Since its inception in 1948, and in the wake of the Deir Yassin catastrophe, the Dar
El-Tifl El-Arabi continued to operate within the realm of social and humanitarian services through a well set plan, rendering assistance to all those orphans and needy of Palestine People without discrimination or exception but with priority for those needy children from remote villages being out of reach of its direct care and help, also for there being faraway from other philanthropic
organizations and social welfare operatives located in the cities, this policy had resulted in an eighty percent occupancy of our boarding section from this category.
In addition, and after the occupation of the rest of Palestine in 1967, Dar
El-Tifl included in addition to our children residing or taking refuge in the West Bank, brethren from Palestinian cities and villages occupied since 1948 like
Jaffa, Haifa, Nazareth and others, thus reunion of the Palestinian children had taken place, consolidating their aspirations under exceptionally harsh circumstances, nevertheless, these circumstances, hard as they may be, could not
disrupt the continuation of this establishment nor its development, in fact it made those in charge more determined in delivering the message and doubling their efforts to insure a decent and
honorable life for those children and saving them from the dark alleys of drift and
delinquency.
The establishment's function did not stop at humanitarian and social services, it further spread to cover cultural and educational aspects, so it went head on with the heavy load it
shouldered, starting with nursery, kindergarten, sewing training and illiteracy
programs adding with the advance of every year a new academic class until it now acquired a school for primary,
Preparatory and Secondary education and on its helm the college of Arts for Women encompassing
several departments.
Last but not least, it is worthwhile to cast a look at the past and watch how our
establishment started its first blessed steps in two small rooms that resembled a cave, but now, with the
blessings of the Almighty we are now spread over a whole quarter of six new and old buildings. With the help
of God, aid will never stop and the forward march will continue, cherished by faithful hearts and bolstered by solemn toil until our aspirations are fulfilled. |
