The
Detroit
Convention and Visitors Bureau works to
bring tourists from the suburbs to the downtown area to
discover the rich history of Detroit, while encouraging them and
providing them with options to spend money at area hotels and
restaurants. To promote the idea Detroit has devised an attention
getting campaign that requires your help. You have been named
to a
prestigious panel assigned with the task of establishing a Detroit
History Hall of Fame. Since many already know the story of the
auto
industry, your panel will be asked to select a figure from another
aspect of Detroit history and nominate him or her for this years
Hall of Fame induction class.
To nominate someone you feel deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, you
must present a
case for them in front of the Board Members of The Detroit Convention
and Visitors Bureau. Nominees become eligible for the Hall of
Fame 20 years after they are deceased. In your presentation you
must
include a biography
showcasing your nominee’s achievements, describe what historical impact
they have had on the city, and what are the parallels seen in today’s
Detroit. Also include memorials, landmarks, or other locations
important to this person, and reveal any
controversy they may have had in their lives. An example of
controversy would be Henry Ford's one time role as publisher of the Dearborn
Independent journalwhich published anti-Semitic material.
In short, you must
convince the board members that your nominee would generate the most
interest among
historical travelers and get people to visit the city of Detroit to
learn more about them.
