The city of Detroit is known throughout the world as the Motor City due
to the tremendous effect the automotive industry has on the area and
its history. This moniker is, however, just one of the many names

rich historical legacy of
this metropolis possess. This great American city could just as
easily
be known as
Stove City,
Lumberville,
Hitsville,
Salttown,
Trapper
Town, or
Freighteropolis due to
its prosperous past. All of these
titles, however, could not be possible with out the ingenuity and
effort of many great Detroit historical figures.
Due to the
History Channel,
historical fiction novels, and other current media, history is very
popular and historical tourism has become a lucrative industry for many
places in America. The city of Detroit has tried to tap into this
market by capitalizing on the success of
The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield
Village, and become one of the most popular cities in the country
