Dick Prince my Minister at Faith United: "Dan, You are to be commended for launching into a great focused program for yourself. I know that you will do well. I've already seen the strong focused manner that you can work at a project that you set your sights on. I was once in a military camp for the summer and my P.T. Instructor gave me an insight that I have never forgotten. As we were working at doing push-ups one day, he said to us "If you are still upright, if you are still breathing - you have more to give. If you have not passed out, if you can still think about giving up - you have more to give!" It may seem a simple thing, but I have often thought of it in a tough physical spot when I felt I could not continue. "If you can still think about giving up - you've still got more to give Dan!" Push through to a new level! God be with you."

My friend Jimmy who referred me to Bill Phillips and Body-
for-LIFE: "There are two secrets to developing presence. First, whatever the deed, it must be done with quiet expertise - Never Boastful. Second, and perhaps more important, is appearance. If it's obvious that you respect yourself, others will be likely to respect you."

My mom: "Dear Dan: Here are some positive thoughts and quotations. Hope they inspire you to achieve your goals!
01. It's hard to beat a person who never gives up.
02. You miss 100% of the shots you never take.
03. If you don't scale the mountain, you can't see the view.
04. No farmer ever plowed a field by turning it over in his mind.
05. Unless a man undertakes more than he possibly can do, he will never do all he can do.
06. You have the ability to change your world.
07. Don't be afraid to start small, then go for greatness.
08. Hope sees the invisible, feels the intangible, and achieves the impossible.
09. The future that we study and plan for begins today.
10. Difficulties mastered are opportunities won.
11. When the outlook is poor, try uplook.
12. You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.
13. Success seems largely a matter of hanging on after others have let go.
14. Out of the most difficult circumstances often comes the best results.
15. Dream high, believe high, think high and you'll rise high.
16. Never think down, always think up.
17. The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.
18. The following is a translation of the Japanese version of the 23rd Psalm (one of the greatest passages of the Bible):
The Lord is my Pace-setter, I shall not rush; He makes me stop and rest for quiet intervals; He provides me with images of stillness, which restore my serenity; He leads me in the ways of efficiency through calmness of mind, and His guidance is peace. Even though I have a great many things to accomplish each day, I will not fret for His presence is here; His timelessness, His all importance, will keep me in balance. He prepares refreshment and renewal in the midst of my activity, By anointing my mind with His oils of tranquility. My cup of joyous energy overflows, Surely harmony and effectiveness shall be the fruits of my hours, For I shall walk in the pace of my Lord and dwell in His house forever.

You are a wonderful son. You have many talents, a kind, loving heart and a great mind. I'm very proud of you. Thank you for being you. Raising you has made me a better person. I'm grateful for the challenge. The life our good God has created for us is big and beautiful and Unlimited! It's possibilities are boundless. I know you can do whatever you set your mind on. Love always, Mom."

My friend Peter: "Remember that disaster is opportunity in disguise. Think about what you can do rather than react to the situation. The best way to succeed is to stop thinking of yourself as a victim. If you see yourself as a victim, others will see you as one. If you see yourself in a positive light, others will see you as positive and proactive and you will cantrast with anything negative they may be feeling. Good luck on your program. It is very inspirational!"

So after my Decision, my Planning & Prep Time, Dad took my Before Photos on Sunday February 25th, 2001. I then went to the gym (NRG in Oshawa) and got starting weights for my level 5 intensity for all of the exercises found within the Body-for-LIFE program. I was totally prepared for Day 1...

Day 20 - Saturday March 17/01 - This treadmill Work-out was all about personal victory - of breaking through the clouds to see that the sun still shines warm and bright above all the clouds. I came to the gym not feeling like working out. I had to force myself to laugh when I first got up - after a principle in "The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari." Then my neighbor phoned - he had been drinking & had lost the new dog he had bought for his dad. Then my work-out shorts weren't in my gym bag. Then, the first 2 treadmills I got on wouldn't work. Even the thoughts "Focus, Intensity & Push-Through" seemed like old, dying patterns. Then, in the middle of my work-out - my body started telling me that it needed the washroom facilities. Then, I imagined flying above all these clouds to see "Yes, the sun's still shining." This vision carried me through. It's an important reminder to constantly be re-created, seek out new possibilities & realities & keep to my game plan. It was a personal victory - a sign of new strength & a glimpse of things to come. A much appreciated work-out! The pace I set was my own & with God's help - I ran it!!
