Your BOS Information Harm None Stories Divination Personal Opinon I AM A WITCH! By Sandi Thomas When I stand up for myself and my beliefs, they call me a witch. When I stand up for those I love, they call me a witch. When I speak my mind, think my own thoughts, or do things my own way, they call me a witch. Being a witch entails raising my children to be strong people Who have a solid sense of personal and social responsibility, Who are not afraid to stand up for what they believe in And, who love and respect themselves for the beautiful beings they are. Being a witch means that I am free to be the wonderful creature I am, With all my own intricacies, contradictions, quirks and beauty. Being a witch means I won't compromise what's in my heart. It means I live my life MY way. It means I won't allow anyone to step on me. When I refuse to tolerate injustice and speak up against it, I am defined as a witch. The same thing happens when I take time for myself instead of being everyone else's maid or when I act a little selfish. I am proud to be a witch! It means I have the courage and strength to allow myself to be who I truly am and won't become anyone else's idea of what they think I "should" be. I am outspoken, opinionated and determined. By Goddess, I want what I want and there is nothing wrong with that! So, try to stomp on me, try to douse my inner flame, try to squash every ounce of beauty I hold within me. You won't succeed. And if that makes me a witch, so be it. I embrace the title and am proud to bear it. I love this, I can call myself a witch now and not feel bad about it! Just a little before I begin... The Craft is a place of power , where we are responsible for our own actions. For reasons past and present, it's comforting to know that we are not alone. For the apprentice: Witchcraft is often written as one word, when in truth, it is two words: witch (wise) and craft (an occupation requiring special skill). Come on, people, if you don't get it then it is not for you. . --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Novice - "One who is inexperienced or untrained." Merriam-Webster Dictionary I am astounded at the interest in the Craft. I am also disappointed at the mindset of those that think a few candles and words can accomplish a spell. The Craft is knowledge handed down from teacher or presenter to initiate for good reason. Much like an artist learns from a master, you learn what to do and most importantly, how and why before you create on your own. "...only a witch of high degree who has trained and worked the Craft for many years may cast a spell." There are rituals to perform before you try to cast spells. These rituals are easy to memorize yet much more difficult to perform without years of study and preparation. If you wish to embrace the Craft as your path without proper instruction, you may soon discover your spells aren't working. The Craft is not for everyone and, frankly, most teachers or presenters (High Priestess, High Priest) find that only one novitiate out of many get past first degree. This is not a mail-order degree you can frame and place on the wall. It is a degree of study, hard work and advancement of ability and skill; a system of degrees in which you learn who you are and about the world in which you exist. See also page on Solitary Practitioners A presenter will advance you on the merits of your abilities and willingness to learn. First and foremost, you must accept responsibility for your own actions. What you think and do come back to you three to ten fold depending on degree; i.e., 3 to 10 times what you have sent out. If you are not careful, that return can turn into a powerful punch. The presenter is also there to guide you, as well as helping you to open your mind and heart to the truth about yourself and others. Know that the Craft's first law is love. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ask yourself the following questions: Q: Am I interested in witchcraft, magick, paganism (use your own words).... ...1. as a result of influence by others? ...2. a natural instinct perhaps since childhood?
