As long as you don't harmt anyone, or anything,
including yourself, other humans, animals, plants
and Earth itself, you can do whatever you want.
This sounds like a very simple, straight forward rule, but it's not.
If you think about it, nearly every action we take harms something.

First thing in the morning you wake up from a bed which is coveredwith sheets and a blanket probably made from natural fabric, which means a plant died for it. If your bed sheet isn't made of natural fabric, but from synthetic fabric, then you are hurting the earth by usinga product that  pollutes  it. You get up, put make up on, which  90%  of the makeup was tested on animals,
Put on your leather sandels, eat breakfast, which is made from natural food which once was alive. You go outdoors and step on an ant on your way out...

I think you get the point - it's vary hard to live without hurting either something else or yourself. But there are some ways you can prevent some of these things- use makeup and cosmetics that are nott tested on animals and don't buy leather clothing (shoos, coats ect.).

It is difficult not to stand on the ant on your way
out, or squash the grass when you step on it, but i
don't think that's what the Rede refers to, I think it
means don't consciously do anything to harm anything/one.

About the food issue, it a bit more dificult. Some Wiccans are vegeterian so they won't harm any animals, but they eat natural things like fruit, vegetable which were alive, just like the cow they refuse to eat.  I personaly am not a vegetarian, though i can understand why other Wiccan are. These are the resons I am not a vegeterian:
There is a cycle to life, natures cycle, and once that cycle is broken, there is a large amount of harm and hurt to all things.
For example:
The worlds stops eating cows (or just you, it's  the same idea), the comunity of cows grows  and the amount of grass lessens because there are more cows and more grass being eaten. Because of this the amount of field mice lessens - there isn't not enough grass for them to eat - the amount of snakes lessens - not enough mice - the amount of preditor birds lessons- not enough snakes - the amount of lizards grows - no one to eat them - the amount of grasshoppers lessens - to many lizards ect.  The hole ballance of life's cycle is broken, and all because ther cows aren't being eaten...
It comes down to the same thing it always does...
