242 Johann Conrad CRONE, b. c1722, bpt. 5 Feb 1722, Staudernheim, Palatinate, GER, s/o Simon Jacob and Anna Magdalena (ROLLAUER) CRONE, m. ___?, (243) Anna Margaret SINN, d/o Heinrich and Anna Katherina _____?.  An interesting item found in Maryland German Church Record, Vol. 7, p18, which shows that Conrad CRONE was concerned about the salvation of his slave; "Thomas s/o Thomas, Negroe of Conrad CRONE, and Hannah, Negroe woman of Johannes Graff, b. 11 Oct 1792, bpt. 11 Apr 1793, the baptism sponsored by Johannes Graff".  In 1775, Conrad and Elizabeth Magdalena CRON sponsored Elisabeth Reeder, 3 Feb 1775, d/o Jesse and Barbara Reeder; also Conrad and Elizabeth CRON sponsored Conrad, s/o Dietrich and Maria Barbara Bauer on 17 May 1775. Margaretha CRONIN, sponsored Elisabeth d/o Gottfied and Barbara Stoll, and 4 Deb 1776, Anna Margaret CRONE and dau., Anna Barbara CRONE sponsored Anna Margreth and Anna Catharina, twin dau. of Georg and Anna Maria Torne. This is probably Conrad Sr., and one of the daughters, Maria Elizabeth. In the 1790 household, Conrad had 2 males 10-16, 1 female, and 1 slave; in 1800, he had 1 male 45 and up, and 1 female 26-45. The female 26-45 in 1800, was probably Margaret, who lived at home with her father and was involved in many of his dealings in the area of Jefferson, Frederick Co., MD. 242.3 Maria Elisabeth (Marillas) CRONE, Oct 1755, m. 26 Apr 1774, Frederick Co., MD, Jacob LORENTZ. The marriage was proclaimed on Apr 16th., 17th., and 24th. In 1779, Jacob was a deacon at Zion Lutheran Church, Middletonw, Frederick Co. on 9 Mar 1782, Jacob and Maria sponsored Anna Maria d/o Gottfried Stolle. They sponsored Joseph s/o Jacob and Elisabeth Shroyer on 3 Mar 1796, and on 18 Dec 1795, Elizabeth d/o Casper and Elisabeth Karch. On 2 Feb 1798, they sponsored Peter s/o Peter and Barbara Grof. In 1798, Jacob was an elder in the church. In the 1800 census, there were 2 males under 10, 1 male 10-16, 1 male 26 to 45, 2 females under 10, 2 females 101-16, and 1 female 26-45. Only two sons have be identified. On 11 Oct 1805, Maria sponsored Elisabeth d/o Stephen and Maria Harris, and on 23 Sep 1817, Maria sponsored Jacob s/o Frederick and Margaret Dorner. On 29 Mar 1818, Adam and wife, sponsored Johann Henrich s/o Henrich Lude and wife. In 1850, Elizabeth is living alone in Frederick Co.. One child has be identified; other possible children were Henry b. c1808, William b. c1818, and George b. c1818, and there must have been others. (MDFRB2, 22, MDFR1) Children:

Feb 1866, MD, his dau. in the household. 'Kate' being 10 y. older than Arthur must have had a dau. by a previous marriage. In 1910, Arthur is a widower and night watchman in the Steam Railroad Shop, living with Martin E. Shindel in the 3rd. Ward of Hagerstown, Washington Co., MD. (MDFR11-12, MDWA16) Children:

In the household was John Beard 19, shoemaker, Nanna E. Barton 16, and William Shipley 20, a shoemaker. In 1860, he was shoemaker in Myersville, Jackson Twp., Frederick Co. After 1860, George does not appear in an census. In 1870, son George is a cook. In 1880 George, a printer, Carrie O. 20, b. MD, and Willie  E. 7, are with Catherine, probably too young to be Catherine's children. In 1900 Carrie is 40 and described as a servant. In 18290, Carrie O. 59, is a nurse in the household of Franklin Beck, in the 4th. Ward of Baltimore, MD. (MDFR1, 9-12) Children:

242.3b4 Joseph LORENTZ, b. 6 Apr 1823, MD, probably never married. In 1880, he is head of the household. His two sisters Margaret  and Maria A. are living with him. Joseph was a shoemaker. In 1900, he is boarding with his sister Eliza Ann BRADY. (MDFR11, 12)

242.3b5 Adam LORENTZ b. 8 Jun 1826, Md, m. 12 Jan 1853, Mary Z. (Sabia, Zibia, Selina: different in each census) MANCHEY,  b. c1820, MD. In 1860, Adam was a constable in Middletown, Frederick Co., MD. In 1870 at 43 y. old, he described himself as a retired tailor. Mary must have d. between 1880 and 1900, when Adam is boarding with his sister, Eliza Ann BRADY. (MDFR1, 9-12) There were apparently no children.

242.3b6 Eliza Ann LORENTZ b. Oct 1827, m. 4 sep 1849, Frederick  Co., H. L. BRADY. H. L was a printer in Middletown, MD. He may have been previously married. In 1850, there is a George Alexander BRADY age 15 in the household, too old to be the son of Eliza Ann. In 1900 Eliza is listed as a widow. Her brothers Joseph and Adam are boarding in her home. The is also a granddaughter, Ida Clem b. Sep 1881, age 18, in the home. Children Sarah and Thomas may have been twins. (MDFR1, 8-12) Children:

In 1900, George was remarried to Fannie J. _____?, and living in Gaithersburg, Montgomrey Co., MD. (MDFRB2, MDFR1, 9-12) Children:

242.8 Johann Conrad CRONE, b. 4 Apr 1771, Frederick Co., MD, d. 30 Dec 1834, m. Catharina _____? b. 18 Jun 1775, d. 17 Jun 1839, age 64y 3m, buried 18 Jun 1839. In the 1800 census, Conrad had 21 males under 10, 1 male 26-45, 3 females 10-16, 1 female 16-26, and 1 female 45 and up in the household. On 16 Dec 1806, Catharinea KROHN sponsored the baptism of Catharina d/o Johannes and Magdalena Hering. Called Conrad, his will is filed in Frederick Co., MD, 11 Jan 1836, (GMRB1 p425). The executors were Henry and John CRONE. Johann and wife, Catharina are buried in Lutheran Cem., Middletown, Frederick Co., MD. (FH13, 14MDFRB6 p19, 22, 23MDFR2, 3, 6, 8)

Zion Congregational records indicates they were m. in Middletown., Frederick Co. Conrad was a farmer in Middletown, Frederick Co. In 1850, his brother Henry CRONE, probably his wife, age 33, and a daughter, age 11 are living in the household. In 1860, Eliza is still living with 3 of the children in Middletown. They are buried in the Lutheran Cem., Middletown, Frederick Co. All the children, execpt, Josephus, were baptised in Zion Congregation Church, Middletown. CRONE buried in Burkittsville Union Cem., Frederick Co. In 1870, Carlton, a farmer and head of the household, had his brother, Josephus, and his sister, Amanda, and his mother, Eliza living with him. There is also a William Toms, 18, and a farm hand living with them. In 1880, he is a butcher living in Burkittsville, with two black servants, Mary F. Haney, age 38, b. VA, a house servant, and Peter Haney, age 18, b. VA, a farm worker. In 1900, Ella S. CRONE (Sarah E.), and daughter, Mattie E., are living with her mother, Matilda HILLARY. There is a John W. HILLARY also in the household, age 44, b. Mar 1856. In 1920, Ellaa is a clerk in a general tore in Burkettsville, with her brother, John living in the household. (MDFRB2, MDFR10-14) Children:

Precinct, Frederick, Frederick Co., MD. His sister, Laura FLART, age 59, and a widow is living with them. In 1930, he is a baker in Frederick. Laura is still living in the household. Silas W. was the 2nd. child of that name in the family, a common practice in German families who may have lost a child of that name previously. They are buried in Middletown Lutheran, Middletown, Frederick Co.(MDFRB2, 23, MDFR14, 15)

242.8d Henry CRONE b. 24 Sep 1805, Frederick Co., MD, d. 25 Jan 1863, 57y 4m 1d, Frederick Co., m. Nancy (or Mary) _____?. There is only a scattering of information on this Henry CRONE. There are gaps in the birth dates of the children, indicating that there may have been more children, more than one wife. In 1850 he is living with his brother, Conrad. In 1860, he is a farmer living in Middletown District, Frederick Co. His will was filed in Frederick  Co. (APK-1-258) 2 Feb 1863. The executor was John W. Ramsburg.
