Dale Melchin Commentaries
Volume 1 Edition 3
What's wrong with the world today?
In the first statement Jesus makes he tells us to pray in this way. He tells us to honor God and pray for His kingdom to come and His will be done on earth as it is in heaven. What does that mean? Just what it says. He tells us to pray for heaven to come to earth. Now why would Jesus have us pray that and not intended to fulfill it for 2000+ years?
Scriptural Unfaithfulness
By Dale Melchin
Ever since the advent of Liberalism in the 19th century Christianity has not quite been itself. For along time Christians faithfully battled against the influences of humanism and other anti-Christian views. However, when evolution began to dig its heels into the schools of higher learning such as Yale, Notre Dame, and Harvard the Biblically minded Christians failed to keep control and in fact, retreated from the institutions of higher learning and started their own subculture. Why is this? I assert the reason behind this mass retreat is infidelity to the Scriptures. It is a different kind of unfaithfulness though. Whereas Liberals deny the infallibility and authority of the Scriptures and conservatives affirm it, the unfaithfulness does not lie their. It lies in this. Since the end of the Second World War Christians lost their biblical optimism. Some event in time made the Christians think they will never complete the great commission. The conservatives have failed to believe that God will have His Kingdom manifest itself in the world in time and in history. All because of a war that should actually affirm this belief! We crushed Hitler, praise God! Instead we got sissy and thought just because we had a long war, God will not make things better.
The second statement is simple. He is telling the apostles, based on His authority in all the world and in all of heaven (Which in that time that would make Jesus the King of kings, or THE EMPEROR OF THE UNIVERSE) that they are to go and preach the gospel to all nations and baptize them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost. Now why would Jesus tell the apostles and the church corporately to do something and not enable them to fulfill the plan that He conceived? Just so you know He intends for us to complete the task of building His kingdom on earth.
My point is we don't have success in the world because we fail to take God at His Word just like the Israelites many times failed to do. I am going to end with several question. Why can't we as the church learn from Israel's mistakes? Why has humanism gotten into the church? Why can we not tell the Christians from the rest of the world anymore? Why are we culturally irrelevant? I have my answers. I leave you to answer them. E-mail me your responses. If they are good I'll post them on next weeks commentary.

There are two statements that I would like to look at that are made by the Lord Jesus Christ in the Gospel of Matthew.

1) 'Pray, then, in this way: 'Our Father who is in heaven,  Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.' Matthew 6:9-10

2) All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Matthew 28:18-20
