Dale Melchin Commentaries Volume 1 Edition 1
What's wrong with the world today?
By: Dale Melchin
My answer is going to surprise you, even madden some of you, so brace for impact!
2)Israel is the Covenant people of God in the Old Testament; settled in the midst of the land. God tells them to conquer the land. They refuse and make compromises and treaties with surrounding nations. Now who here is the problem? The Canaanites? No God promised to defeat them. It was the Israelites who were the problem of Canaan, because they wouldn't listen to God's Word.
Years ago, Christians were well-respected people in our communities. Why? Christians were socially involved, intellectually stimulating, kind, and obedient people. In saying this I do not mean that we should accommodate to the world we should fight the worldliness that has infected the church.
What's wrong with the world today? Christians. Now before you all think I have turned into a traitor defecting to Satan's camp, let me explain myself with a couple of illustrations.
1)You are the owner of a big manufacturing company and your biggest asset are your engineers because they come up with all of the new stuff that your company sells. Now lets say for after 15 years your first engineers retire and the upstarts take over after being trained by these seasoned engineers. They still put out a good product, but the quality is not as great so you take some action to fix the problem and it?s done with. Now these men train the next group after that even though they are intelligent and capable men they did a shoddy job of training these new upstarts. The training is so terrible that the upstarts forget your first principles of quality and begin to produce a shoddy product as fast as they can. The company begins to lose business in a drastic fashion. You tell the engineers to read the book they received at the beginning of their training from cover to cover and to use it all the time at work. A few of the men listen to you but most of them decide to either ignore the book or read the end first and work backwards. The men who listen to you and your book you put in charge of the shop. The idiots don?t listen to the smart ones. So you just decide to let the natural effects of these men?s ignorance run their course until the competition runs you over and buys this shop out. However, you and your intelligentsia have already started a new shop across town that is going wham both of them. Who were the problem people here? Engineers. Engineers who would not listen to the shop owner and who ultimately lost their jobs.
Today in the 21st Century it is the Christians who are like this. We are like the machine shop producing crappy products, however instead of producing trash which doesn't work the Christian church today produces people who don't care about the serious study of God's word or its application. I.e. we are producing "crappy" Christians. Christians who are not trained to be mature, but rather immature. It is not the Canaanites that surround us that are the problem it is ourselves. WE ARE THE PROBLEM. We avoid issues such as doctrine because it is "divisive." We won't call heresy a heresy because are afraid the giving will drop. We don't produce intelligent students of the word in our Sunday Schools because we care more about our religious sentiments than what God's Word says and how we should defend it to the death.
I wrote this article to get people thinking. I'm going to be writing more articles on this subject, and how the Bible would combat the problem of worldliness in the church. The bottom-line is that we get back to Historical Christian Orthodoxy. I am on a journey in this area too so join me as we do this. We needn't walk far.

In both cases it was not the competition or the Canaanites who were the problem. It was the engineers because they wanted to do things their own way and not operate according to their boss's first principles. In the second case Israel would not listen to God's first principles.
