GPS, Global Positioning System, for those who didn't know...anyway it's a very useful tool in navigation and generally a cool "toy". GPS is an option on some Audi models, however it wasn't available on the 1.8t...so I took matters into my own hands. Actually it was really an accident, one day while shopping at Meijers (and large retail/grocer chain in Michigan) I decided to pick up some Mobil 1 for my next service. On the way to the "oil aisle" I walked past the cell phone accessories area, and there it was a mount that was perfect and it was even made in Germany!!! You see I've been using a portable GPS made by Garmin for a long time and have always wanted to mount the unit in my car, however I've never been able to find a suitable mount. So when I found this mount (made by Samsonite) I thought "great" and it was only like 20 dollars (even better), so I bought it. Now all I needed to do was figure out how to mount the whole unit...no problem!!!

First things first, I had to trim a little off the cushioning so the GPS would seat firmly in the mount once that was completed and I was happy the GPS wouldn't fly out at an inopportune moment I moved on to other matters. Where did I want to place this thing? Obviously it need to be in a spot so I (the driver) could see it, but I didn't want to interfere with the shifting area or anyone sitting in the car. Keeping these variables in mind only one place would work, the mount is a two piece unit a base and the arm (which holds the GPS). So I played around a bit and came up with this...check out the pictures below.

In this picture you can see the view from the drivers seat, it also shows the optional power cord plugged in

Here you can see an overall view of the dash area, you can see the unit and mount don't take up that much room

Sorry it's a little blurry, but this is from the passenger foot well, you can see the base and mounting arm

I'm very happy with the outcome of the install, the arm is easy to remove it takes literally 5 seconds (just flip a switch) that way you can get to the glove compartment. Also, even with the arm in place, there is no encroachment upon the passenger I've had my friend Matt (6'2") sit in there with the unit in place with no problems. I think that just about covers that =)
