This upgrade was done out of both want and need...you see after my last accident the car sat for a very long time, allowing rust to accumulate on the brake rotors. Normally this rust would wear off during everyday driving, however this stuff just wouldn't go away. So when I took my car in for it's 50K service and asked them to check out the brakes my worst fears were realized, the brakes couldn't be fixed they needed to be replaced. When i asked how much it would cost to do that I got the expected answer, a whole lot of loot (if I remember correctly ~1400 dollars)!!!! Well needless to say I wasn't about to fork over that much money for OEM brakes, especially when I can get better stuff for cheaper in the aftermarket arena. So I did a little research and decided that I'd like to keep the stock size rotors and pads, I just wanted to upgrade them with better quality parts. There are two big bonuses here, actually three...one I can get rid of the brake dust problem Audi's have. Two I'll end up with a more fade resistant braking package, and third the insurance company is going to foot the bill. How you're asking? Well because it was their fault that my car took so long getting repaired, thus sitting around for the brakes to deteriorate, it's only fair that they replace them. So I ordered the stage 1 brake kit from APR (www.goapr.com) the kit was very complete, it included pads, rotors (slotted or drilled, I chose slotted), brake fluid, and stainless steel brake lines. All this for far less then the OEM brake parts...and it's all of a better quality too. On to the installation, it was actually very easy...surprisingly easy now that I think of it.
Well that's it, I would have taken more pictures during the install but it's kind of when you're working on your own. Especially when you've got dirt all over your hands and you have to wash them whenever you want to take a photo, I mean come on no one wants to get their camera dirty =).
