| What a Dandy: Kim edges Li by 30 votes |
| EVANSTON, Ill. (AP)__ Newton Li was pretty much ahead in the voting for nearly 23 consecutive hours. And then opponent Andrew Kim came home. With a voter turnout of nearly 1,100, Kim beat Li by the slimmest of margins, using a literal 11th-hour campaign blitz to win the Boba Party primary by 30 votes. The race was close all throughout, wiith the margin so slim at times that people were accusing the Daily 1835 of fabricating early returns. At around 10:45 PM, estimates had Li holding a 50-60 vote lead over Kim, but Kim was able to turn things around and take the lead. Nearly 400 votes were registered in the final hour. Li watched the results come in at Shepard Residential College, while Kim was at home at 1835 Hinman. The two candidates spoke and congratulated one another on a hard fought race. Kim, armed with the Boba Party nomination, now moves on to the general election next Monday, where he has 4 opponents to defeat if he wishes to capture the charity money. Li is expected to announce his endorsement for Rebecca Tsang soon. People may now formally endorse one of the five candidates. Those who endorsed candidates in the Primary are now released, and free to endorse anyone. |
