This is one of the five reproduction paintings I made based from the famous painting by the post-impressionist painter Vincent Van Gogh.  This original painting was titled "Starry Night".
I sold this reproduction painting to one of my previous colleage, Bayer Philippines Inc. Plant Manager Ms. Tess Cayton.  I also gave one smaller sized repro to Ms. Susie Amistoso, Bayer Philippines' Human Resources Manager for all the help she extended to Bayer employees.
Starry Night (repro). 20"x26". oil on canvas. 2002
This is another repro painting by the same artist, Vincent Van Gogh, which was titled "Sunflowers."  I made two copies of this painting which I gave them both to my sister and to my friend, Benjie Suzara.  The original is believed to be auctioned for 28 million UK pounds.
It takes me approximately two weeks to finish one repro copy of this famous painting.  I give utmost importance to detail when I make my copies because that is what buyers like to see.
Van Goghmade several copies of this painting because sunflowers were in season during that time.  Other sunflower paintings vary from the fresh to the wilt and from bunches to singles.
Vase with Sunflowers (repro). 16"x20". oil on canvas. 2002.
Another famous painting by the same artist.  Well, somebody asked me to make him a repro painting of this but I still have to make it.  So, the painting that you are looking at your left is the original one.  Im still on the process of making a copy of this.  (So check this page for updates!)
It is quite amusing to note that Van Gogh's paintings were all bursting with colors, from bright yellow ("Sunflower") to vivid bue and grey ("Starry Night").  He intends to "mix" colors not from the mixing pallete but directly to the canvas itself.                  You may note that colors
are still pure when they touch the canvas but tends to "visually mix" when you view the painting from afar.  This technique is typical of "impressionism."
These are some of the works I made when I was still a student at the Philippine High School for the Arts at the National Arts Center.  These works were made when I was about 13 to 14 years old.
The one on the left was done using  black and white dermatograph on linen paper.  We were asked to make a rendering of a sculpture in any way we can depending on our mood for the day.  The artwork depicts two men carrying a block of stone.  You may notice that the swirling background tends to put additional emphasis on the subject.
Sarao. 12"x18". watercolor  on linen board. 1989.
Stones. 12"x18". dermatograph on linen paper. 1989.
I chose to make it a little abstract based on the works of Picasso.
Ballet Dancers. 12"x18". pen & ink on linen paper. 1990.
The one on the top right was made with watercolor on linen board.  The concept is making a rendering of any part of a jeepney.  You will notice that the cubic rendering of the rounded wheel was stylized to have the effect of a matrix screen of a computer while the other half is simply rendered with full color.  Jeepneys are known to be a canvas for road art.  There are also presence of striking colors andidiculous taglines painted on jeepney hoods and sides.
The bottom right was made with pen and ink onlinen paper.  This is a rendition of ballet dancers as we see them practicing at the studio.  This work tends to capture the movement in a 2-dimentional plane.
Some of my other works when I was still a student in high school were all kept safely including my  work (thesis) during my last year.  I made use of
mixed media in making my final work during my last year in the Art School.  It involves the presentation of Einstein's theory of relativity that the artwork changes in appearance, color and movement depending on the viewer's motion and distance from the artwork itself.   I will be posting a picture of my thesis in the future - so please check for updates.
