Mykenzy Ford Design

Hi there! My name is Mykenzy Ford. I am a 22-year-old self-taught artist originally from Murray, Utah. I have lived in St. George, Utah for nearly ten years. I have been drawing ever since I could hold a pencil. As a child, drawing became a significant part of my identity. From the very start, I had such a strong passion for art. Some of my earliest drawings were of rainbows, family members, and Disney characters. Everyone in my life growing up knew me as "the artist." At age 9, I decided to enter a drawing contest, with the grand prize being awarded the title of 'Little Miss Murray.' I drew a collage of famous places and people in Murray, and then submitted it. I was then crowed Little Miss Murray at the 2009 Miss Murray Pageant. For a whole year, I got to accompany Miss Murray to all sorts of events, including the Murray City Christmas Tree Lighting, a city hall meeting, lots of parades, and even the Miss Utah Pageant. Being mentored by Miss Murray for a whole year was the best experience of my life.

When I was about 11 years old, my grandma, an extremely talented painter, had me try my hand at painting. I picked it up very quickly. I began with acrylic paint, then tried out some watercolors. In my freshman year at middle school, I discovered my love for pottery and ceramics. I was introduced to ceramics in one of my art classes at school, while creating sculptures. I was then invited by the high school to come to an open studio after school every week. I created many sculptures, especially of pumpkins. Ever since then, I have created countless drawings and paintings, as well as some sculptures here and there. When I was in my senior year of high school at Tuacahn High School for the Arts, I began commissioning artwork. That year, I also contributed to several collaborative projects around the school, including a mural highlighting influencing artists throughout the years. My favorite piece that I created for my school has to be my four-by-four foot hand-stretched canvas painting of a palm tree with bright greens and purples. That painting currently resides at the new Utah Arts Academy in St. George, Utah. I am now studying graphic design and minoring in art at Utah Tech University.
