The
Head office of the Children and Youth Evangelistic Association is
located in Mawkhar, Shillong, which is the capital and the largest
town of the state of Meghalaya in India. Shillong lies about 4000
feet above sea level in the North-eastern part of India and is a beautiful
hill-station. Sohra or Cherrapunji, which receives the heaviest rainfall
in the world, is about 56 kms. away. Beautiful and scenic tourist
spots are in abundance in and around Shillong which is sometimes called
Scotland of the East. The people are warm and friendly.
Three major tribes known as the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo inhabit the
state although Shillong itself and some other towns have a rather
more mixed population. |
