I think everyone knows that Sweden is one of the North Europe countries. The climate of Sweden is really weird..in winter, the sun rises only a few times each week. It's always dark and gloomy. But in summer..the sun sets almost at midnight and morning starts at three or four.. At the end of June, there's a day that the sun doesn't set. It's the White Night phenomenon..we call it in Korean. In Swedish, it's the "Midsommar" which means Middle Summer. The whole country is on the holiday, and there is a big festival. As the picture shows..it's green all over the country..and people are full of joy~ Everyone dresses in traditional clothes and sing and dance around a big maypole made of grass and flowers. |

These are the pictures taken at the Midsommar Festival Park with my cousins and family. You see my sister and me with the flower crowns on our heads??^^ We made those crowns with leaves and flowers by ourselves. We were quite busy this day~^^* And the big orange horsey with the four small kids on?) It's the traditional horse of Sweden. Maybe I can compare it to the Ϸ in Korea - it's something like thatwhich has a special meaning to the Swedish people. It's really interesting to visit the house where they make these horses. The horses have various sizes - from the big big ones like you see in the picture to a very tiny size, smaller than your little finger. |

Here I'll show you another interesting place in Sweden~!! Until when did you believe in Santa Claus?? Frankly speaking, I believed it until I came back to Korea - it should have been 5th grade I guessquite not a young age to say that there's a Santa~! But you almost can't help believing it because there's a Santa Land ( 'Tomte' means 'Santa' in Swedish ). All kids visit there at least once a year. This is the summer when our family visited Tomteland. That's the Santa's sleigh~^^* We sing~~~ Dashing through the snow~~ wow~~~ |
|
We believed that if we went to Santa and greeted him, he would remember our faces and names and give us a big present on the Christmas Eve~^^ Children are really cute and unsophisticated. They're very innocent and believe anything around them - I think this makes the kids more creative. That's the Santa that promised me the Christmas present^^the boy on the right side is my brother. And we're also writing down our names and addresses on Santa's notebook Here we go~~ Santa's gonna give me a big present in my socks~~!! |

In this part, I want to tell you some information about Sweden. Maybe after reading these, you may know Sweden more better, and thats exactly what I hope~!^^
1) In-class NEWS project (article summarization) # http://www.time.com/time/europe/magazine/2000/0731/liquor.html For a long time, Sweden has been the part of Vodka Belt (part of north countries where hard drinking is natural). But Sweden has used punitively high taxes and restrictions on retail sales to force drinkers to cut back. As a result, Sweden now has the lowest alcohol consumption in Western Europe, and the lowest level of booze-related illness. This has made a serious debate against the European Commission and what makes the problem bigger is that the Swedish government is the owner of Vin & Spirit, the company that produces Absolut, the worlds second-best-selling brand of Vodka. I truly think that Sweden is a very conservative country - in every way. Maybe that's why people feel comfortable though they pay a huge rate of tax but never complain. There is never conflict - a very peaceful place, at least in my opinion! When I came back to Korea, the most shocking thing was the busy circumstance. I was used to the silence^^ # http://www.time.com/time/europe/ta/oyot/0,9868,177009,00.html As everyone knows, Stockholm celebrates the centenary of the Nobel Prize. The prize that Alfred Nobel established, the inventor of dynamite, was awarded in 1901. This award subsequently gone to more than 700 scientists, writers and peacemakers for their contributions to humanity. With more than 70 museums, historic buildings and parks, the Swedish capital is a smorgasbord of art, culture, history and nature. But what defines the city most is its dramatic waterfront!! Vikings plied these waters long before Stockholm was founded in the 13th century ? Museum of National Antiquites shows how Viking culture, ideas and technology influenced Swedens development. Wherever you go in the city, there is water around you - it unites and brings the whole city together. Click each flag below for pictures! You can start your island tour with Skansen open Air Museum. Iwent there when I was a kindergarten child for a picnic and I've seen so many interesting and enormous things. Another island museum is Vasa - it's a seafaring museum. The sculptures and ornaments are surprising. You can see the old Viking ships, and how they sank. Finally, the best tour course I would like to recommend to you is Drottninggatan, a pedestrian street in the center of town. Don't this place! You can simply think of . Traditional Swedish folk song as you walk along the street, you can see antique shops, trendy cafes and specialty boutiques. Theres so many things to make you fall in love with Sweden~!!! 2) As everyone knows, Sweden has a very strict tax system - a perfect welfare country. They try to keep a small gap between the poor and rich, so usually people are optimists. When our family lived in, we paid little tax and the government paid for our living - that's the way they use their welfare fund. Maybe thats why nowadays Sweden is facing a big financial trouble. Also Sweden is a very conservative country - some people say that it's the middle of democracy and socialism. But therefore, I think it's a very clean and peaceful place to live, a very quiet place and excellent place for travel! Generally, Swedish people are very kind, polite and very good at English though they have their own language. With your fluent English, I'm sure you will enjoy the journey!!
