Stepping is a complex expression of art involving synchronized dance and movement; hands clapping, feet stomping, cane hitting, singing, speaking, and chanting. Stepping originated as a celebration of African traditions of song and dance. Its techniques and uniformity are highly influenced by the cadence calls and marching in World War II and the Korean War. Chi Upsilon Sigma's step team requires members with originality, dedication, skill and creativity. Being the first Latina Sorority to step, our step team devotes much time and hard work to its exhibitions. If you've ever seen our performances you know... it's all worth it. |
