Nora Miller -- USATF Junior Olympic National Champion!
Photo by "We Do That Photography"
With a personal best of 5.54m (18' 2.25"), Nora Miller won the Youth Girls (age 13-14) Long Jump at the USATF National Junior Olympic Championships in Miami, FL on August 2. The many, many months of hard work paid off in a "dream-come-true" performance of a lifetime. Also competing and achieving a personal best in the Long Jump was Tommy Guitard, jumping 20' 2.25" against some extremely tough competition in a very competitive 15-16 age group (Intermediate Boys). Tommy (age 15) advanced from his original seed of 40th place to finish a respectable 18th. Handicapped by a stress fracture that has prevented him from training during the last 4 weeks, Tommy also competed in the Triple Jump with a near-best mark of 11.75m (38'6.75") placing 33rd overall. Nora also competed in the 100m and 200m dash against some unbelievable athletes to finish 24th in the 100 (12.86) and 21st in the 200 with a solid performance of 26.23 sec. in a torrential rainstorm that created small ponds in Lane 1. Hey... but this is track & field!   FULL RESULTS
