CTC Athletes test their skills at the first Twilight Track Meet, Connecticut College, Friday, July 5.
Nice job Reba, Tamyka, Stian, Fredrik, Jacob, Kyle, Nora, and Tommy. It was a small meet, but a good place to test our new skills and strategies. Reba ran a fast! 100, Tamyka did a great long jump, Stian discovered he may be a distance runner, Jacob threw a mean jav, Kyle ran a great 1500m, Frederik is showing some sprint/jump talent, Nora ran a great 100, and Tommy did some unbelievable jumping -- 18'11" (and an unofficial 19'10"!!). See RESULTS for details.
Next Twilight Meet: Friday, July 12!

Distance Runner Program begins with 23 runners (finishes with 35!)!
In addition to our 30+ track athletes, the distance running program is off to a blazing start with a great turnout and some pretty intense early training. We are pleased to have graduating seniors Laura and Denise Biegen who also brought Roisin Wiszneski from class of '01 to experience some serious summer workouts. Also, we welcome two runners from Sheehan High School, Dale and Chris, and Suzette, mother of 4, attempting to make a marathon comeback! As a statement of their commitment to summer training, the first Durham Fun Run was attended by Becky, Laura, Denise, Roisin, Suzette, Stuart, Celia, and Franklin last Tuesday. Then, since 8 x 400 wasn't enough on Monday and 6 x 200 + 6 x 60 (following a ~2 mi. warm-up) wasn't enough on Wednesday, Franklin, Celia, and Andy B. participated in the hot and hilly "Four on the Fourth" race on Thursday. No PRs set that day, but good early conditioning for the summer! Check out complete results at Chester Rotary.

Congratulations Jacob, Kyle, & Nora -- State Finalists Hershey Track Meet!

What is Racewalking? Monday, May 20,
At Monday's practice we had the pleasure of a visit from Maryanne Torellas who coaches the CT Racewalkers Club. Maryanne has a distinguished career as an athlete including: a 1500m time of 4:32, and an 800 m time of 2:10 as a high school runner. She turned to walking when she was recovering from several stress fractures and found it to be great fun when she began qualifying for national and international teams. Her accomplishments include: six time national champion, former American record holder, a world record holder, Pan American bronze medalist, and Mobile grand prix winner. We were also visited by Collin Chappelle Middletown High hurdler extraordinaire. He gave a demonstration and introduction to running the hurdle events.
