The Connecticut Track Club (CTTC) will provide opportunities for Connecticut athletes, ages 7 and older, to participate in a summer track and field program. The program will emphasize proper technique for running, jumping, and throwing and provide athletes with a safe and effective training program for improving strength, endurance, and flexibility to enhance athletic performance in track and field, road racing, and cross country running.

CTTC offers training and competition for both the novice and experienced athlete wishing to improve his/her performance. Participants will be encouraged to set and work toward personal goals. Emphasis will be placed on drills to improve form and technique; stretching to improve flexibility; and conditioning to improve strength, and aerobic and anaerobic fitness. Overall, the program will endeavor to foster a love for the sport of track & field and an appreciation for all individuals involved in the sport and their diverse personal characteristics and backgrounds, including ability, gender, age, and race or ethnic background. Safety, good sportsmanship, and a healthy work-ethic will be emphasized in all aspects of the program.

The CTTC recognizes that the sports of Track and Field and running are both “individual” and team sports. Athletes can work toward personal goals as well as contribute to a successful “team” performance. In addition, because track and field is a multi-age team sport, CTTC will encourage high school and college athletes to develop leadership skills and become role-models for younger participants during workouts and competitions.

The 2003 training program for the CTTC is sponsored by
THE MIDDLETOWN PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT
