CT Track Club Athletes Qualify for Region I Championships

Eighteen members of the Middletown-based Connecticut Track Club competed in the weekend USATF-CT Junior Olympic Championships, all qualifying in at least one event for the Region I meet to be held in Worcester June 28 & 29.

Bantam athlete (age 9-10) Reba Stanley won the 100m (15.67) and 200m (33.49) dash events by a wide margin and placed second in the long jump. Other top finishers were: Tamyka Jones, 2nd-200m, 3rd-100m, 5th LJ; Kimberly Adorno, 3rd-Javelin, 4th-200m, and 7-yr. old Deasia Lawrence, 6th -100m. On the boys side, Bantam Jared Wilder won gold in the javelin (13.01m), and placed 2nd in the 100m dash and long jump. Teammate Daniel Bransfield placed 2nd in the javelin and earned two 5th place finishes in the 100m and long jump

In the Midget age group (11-12) Monica Gennuso placed in three events winning gold in the 400 (1:19), and two silvers in the 100m and javelin. Teammate Nicole Fleury placed 2nd in the 200m dash and 4th in the 100m. In the 11-12 boys events, Kyle Roberts won gold in the javelin (20.82m), and 6 lb. Shot Put (6.10m) and placed 2nd in the 3000m run. Luigi Raffala placed 2nd in the 400m and 3rd in both the 100m and 200m dash.

Winning three golds and posting personal bests in two of three events, Nora Miller (Youth,13-14 girls) won the long jump with a leap of 5.48m (17'11.5"), the 200m dash (26.29), and the 100m dash (12.97). Lesley Faulkner placed 2nd in the javelin and 4th in the 200m dash. For 13-14 boys, Fredrik Jones won gold in the Long Jump (4.63m), and placed 2nd and 3rd in the 100m and 200m, respectively.

In the Intermediate division (15-16), Eva Ward placed 2nd in the 800 and Triple Jump. Tommy Guitard placed 1st in the long jump (5.64m) and 2nd in the triple jump and 100m dash. Dan Omphroy placed 2nd in the 200m and 4th in the 100m.

In Young Women/Men competition (17-18), Sydney Faulkner won three golds in the 100 (13.56), Long Jump (5.0m -16'4.75") and Triple Jump (10.25m-33'7.5").

The Region I competition next weekend will include the top athletes from the USATF New England, Connecticut, Adirondak, Long Island, and Metropolitan (NYC) associations. The top three finishers from each region in the US will qualify for the USATF National Junior Olympic Championships in Miami, July 28 - August 3.
