President's Report

Subject: Accomplishments and Activities Report (1st Semester, A.Y. 2003-2004)

In June, the Computer Studies Student Council has provided window blinds for every Computer Studies classroom. By that way, too much solar light had been minimized, thus making the rooms conducive for using projectors during class discussions and reports. CSSC also provided an additional wooden bulletin board with protective glass cover, for more presentable announcements board. Vandalism was eliminated.

Junior Philippine Computer Society – UPHL Chapter was “rejuvenated” in the month of July. CSSC has renewed its membership in the National Executive Board. From July to late August, JPCS-UPHL has acquired 84 initial members. The 84 are those who passed in the screening interviews.

Also in the month of July, the Multimedia and Research Center (M&RC) was renovated. Its flooring and lighting was modified. Right after the renovation, the M&RC was opened to Computer Studies students for online/offline research, program coding, project documentation, and printing. M&RC is also for Audio-Visual presentation, a venue for Thesis and Baby Thesis defense, and many more.

Charlie Antiporda, Mark Flores and yours truly became founding members of the DOST – Virtual Center for Technology Innovation in IT – Student Volunteer Corps. This organization was one of the organizing parties for the 1st National IT Student Congress.

Also in August, CSSC sponsored a one-day Working Student Job Fair and Recruitment held at SPS/Guidance Office in partnership with Expercs International, Inc.

September was the busiest. The 1st National IT Student Congress at UP Diliman was attended by 21 delegates from our school for September 5 and 6.

The 5th Leadership Training Seminar on September 12-14, sponsored by SSC-SPS/Guidance Office, held at Villa Brunora Prayer House, Calaca, Batangas was attended by 20 CSSC-JPCS officers. Three of us (Mark Flores, Yna Fernandez and yours truly) were part of the organizing staff. The Computer Studies delegates grabbed several citations including Ms. Personality (Catherine Guico), Star of LTS (Anna Caroline Victoria), Cleanest Room (ComSci Girls), and Walang Tulugan Award.

September 14 was the first JPCS National General Assembly for this Academic Year. It was held at St. Paul College – Quezon City, and was attended by 29 members from our chapter.

Then came one of our major project, the 1st leg of IT Seminar Series. It is a 2-day affair happened September 17 and 20 respectively. On its first day, it featured two seminars. Information Security Best Practices was the first, presented by Mr. Francis Pineda, founder of Information Security Systems Society of the Philippines (ISSSP) and i-Sentry. Java Technology was the second, presented by Ms. Jacqueline Antonio, a Java and XML specialist from DOST-VCTI-IT. On the 20th Mr. Rainier Vergara, a founding member of the Knowledge Management Association of the Philippines, also the founder of the JPCS-UPHL we’re managing today discussed the Knowledge Management Process.

September 25, Irwin Namocatcat and yours truly compete in an Inter-School Computer Quiz Bee sponsored by JPCS-UPHR Las Piñas.
