It's said that "you can't go home again." And in the case of the surviving colonists of the former Isle of Crystal Shores, that's painfully true. Yet, let none take from them the indelible etchings in their minds of the colony that was once as near an idyllic existence than they'd dared to have dreamed. Let none take from them the experiences, both the uniquely positive and utterly devastating, for these also belong to them, and only them. Presented here are a just a few things saved before the eruptions of the volcanoes and the subsequent swallowing of our Isle by the Sea; those who were wise enough to heed the warnings escaped with their lives, and a few treasures now gathered and housed, forever preserved here.

We have some other special, rare artifacts housed for future display, but the ones offered here are offered en masse. This page will also change periodically, to display other works.

We present to you, with a touch of longing for what never can be again: Some shreds left of Crystal Shores Lost. Little things that prove that it wasn't just a dream. For this display, we've chosen some of the Flavors of the Isle.

From The Crystal Shores Colonists' Almanac:

These recipes have been compiled from the colonists' own files, and bound together as a suggested meal planner for our residents. You will find some unusual (and perhaps horrid) delicacies only found on this Isle to supplement your suppers and maintain proper health. With that said, happy dining!

Stewed Mer with Isle Fruit Sauce--submitted by the Ogre colony, East End.

Ingredients:
*1 thinly sliced mermaid (reserve 1/2 of tail for garnish)
*1 lb. seaweed
*2 pinches available herbs
*2 coarsely chopped bananas
*1 coarsely chopped mango
*1 cup orange juice
*Salt to taste

After hanging freshly slain mer from a stake to bleed (about 2 hours), slice thinly and boil mermaid in kettle over open flame for one hour. Add seaweed and continue stirring with stick until seawater has evaporated into the flesh. When the liquid evaporates, add all fruit and cup of juice, simmering until bananas are mush and mango has dissolved. Serve warm in bowls, adorning bowls with even amounts of mer-tail to make it as pleasant to the eyes as the belly. Serves 2.

Candied Human in Pineapple Boat--A Dragon Favorite from the Barrier Isle

Ingredients:
*5 grated humans
*1 lb. sugar
*1 handful Pixies
*1 cup water
*1 handful cherries, pitted
*Whole pineapple, cut in half and cored

After shredding pixies, mix in large bowl with sugar and water. Let marinade for three hours. Scoop mixture into pineapple halves evenly, and chill for an hour. Immediately before serving, garnish with cherries. Serves 1 dragon.

Pixie Sticks--courtesy of Cook, Ship of Fools.

Ingredients:
Banished Pixies, as many as in stock
pinch salt
pinch sugar

Skewers

Impale Pixies with skewers. While bleeding to death, mush them in spicing mixture until coated. Fire over candle until browned to blackened. Serve as treat for prisoners displaying model behavior.

Sharken Soup, as prepared by the Isle Foundling Home

Ingredients:
1 lb Sharken
1 cup diced leeks (onions)
2 tbsp oil
1 cup almond milk
1/4 cup bread crumbs
4-6 T saffron
1/8 tsp salt
1 tsp ginger
1/4 tsp nutmeg

Parboil the sharken. Drain, reserving the resulting broth. Cool then dice. Slice leeks thinely. Add leeks, oil to the broth. Bring to a boil. Add sharken back in. Add rest of ingredients. Simmer until it begins to thicken, but don't let it become too thick. Serves 10 children, and it's mild on their bellies.

"Food Surprise", Waste Not, Want Not--submitted by Wonderland (The Insane Asylum of the Isle) Food Services.

Ingredients:
2 loaves week-old bread, ripped into gummable squares. (Mold wards off bacteria, so do not discard green sections of bread)
1 dozen semi-rotten eggs
1 cup curdled milk
1 handful shredded available meat

Mix contents thoroughly, allowing dough-like substance to rise on counter for one hour. Fire in ovens until black. Serves as many as you wish it to, if you dispense it as individual morsels rather than in saucers or bowls.

Hot Wings

Ingredients:
10 Wings of any species (Pixie, Elf, Dragon, Bird, Butterfly), chopped coarsely
Red pepper, ground
Cup lemon juice
2 loaves day-old bread shredded to crumbled mixture
1/2 lb. onions
1/2 cup whiskey
2 eggs, beaten

Combine all ingredients, coating the wings generously by shaking in burlap bag for about two minutes. When thoroughlly coated, empty bag into heated and oiled skillet. Fry until crispy, and serve immediately. Serves a houseful.

House of Carazzi's Boiled Lobster

Ingredients:
*20 Lobsters
*Water
*Seaweed
*Sliced Lemon

Fill kitchen cauldron with water, adding seaweed. Boil water and do not stoke the fire for awhile, allowing the temperature to even out. Drop lobsters into the cauldron, claws first. Stoke the fire, bring to a roaring boil. Leave lobsters be until they are brightest red. With shovel, dig them out of cauldron, allowing to drain for a moment. Serve. Offer butter if it is available. Serves a bunch. Do not feed to guttersnipes; let them gnaw grains of sand and wish they had your lobster. Let them salivate from the aromas; they can press their faces to the wrought iron fences of Carazzi Manor, but they will not eat with us.

And we've unexpectedly found The Official Isle of Crystal Shores Tourism Ledger, albeit waterlogged and weathered, it was the exact manual given to new arrivals to help them adjust to Isle Life. Look through it now, to see what you'd have done differently, if anything, if you knew then what you know now.

Would you have changed a thing about what you'd done? Would you have gone down with the Isle, when the thick, black smoked choked the skies and the fire rained down upon Her victims? Would you have just stayed aboard your ship or on the back of your Winged Dragon, daring not to ever step foot upon the Sands, daring not to look twice at what you know would end up in certain peril?

Or would you..even if only for a moment..do it all over again...

Would you give a year of your life for just one day back on the Isle? Mayhap exchange a decade for a year?

One never knows how the magics work...
