Striped Dolphins
Striped dolphins( Stenella coeruleoalba) are encountered in the bay throughout the year. The group sizes are much smaller than that of the common dolphins. We come across groups of around sixty animals but unlike common dolphins we rarely encounter groups of less than twenty animals. It is quite usual to see striped dolphins swimming along with common dolphins.
These animals have been seen preying on the same species as common dolphins. They are the same length as common but are more stocky. Our experience suggests that adult striped dolphins are not inclined to bowride, unlike their calves who are incessant and have been recorded by us bowriding continuously for over thirty minutes.
