the picture is the symbolic mating of the God and Goddess, the athame is the God and the chalice is the Goddess. This ritual is called the Sacred Marriage, or more commonly, The Great Rite

herbs - hawthorn, primrose, cowslip, rose, rosemary,
stones - rose quartz, emerald, bloodstone, sapphire
foods - dairy, spicy, oats and cakes, honey and sweets, green salads, eggs
symbols - may pole, cauldron and/or chalice, flowers, weddings/handfastings, bells, athames and swords, eggs
incense - rose, lilac, hawthorn, primrose, ylang ylang, yarrow, basil, camphor, clove, frankincence
activities - handfasting, blessings, the may pole, gathering wild flowers, braiding
