Craft Recipe's Page #1
Clean Mud

warm water (warm enough to melt soap)
1 bar dove soap
1 roll white toilet paper

Have the children tear up the toilet paper into little bits (the smaller the better). Using a cheese grater, grate the bar of soap into a big bowl. Add the torn up toilet paper to the bowl. Add the warm water a little bit at a time while mixing the toilet paper and the soap together. You have added enough water when the mixture begins to feel like a thick cool whip. Do not make the mixture soupy. The more you play with it the fluffier it becomes. The kids have an absolute blast with it (and so I) !!

Uncle Sam Puppet

Red- white and blue paper stripes
foam cup
popcicle stick
round foam ball
paper towel roll
cotton balls

Glue red and blue paper stripes to a plastic foam cup. Insert a Popsicle stick into a foam ball. Glue paper features and a cotton beard and hair on the ball. Use construction paper and a piece of paper towel roll to make a red, white, and blue striped hat. Glue the hat to the head. Make a slit in the cup and place the stick in this. Work the puppet by raising and lowering the stick.

Fourth Of July Rocket

cardboard towel roll
red-white-blue tempera paint
brushes
6 inch circle of red paper
scraps of red-white-blue paper
paper cement
scissors

Paint the cardboard roll in any of the colors. Set it asside to dry. Next cut a slit to the center of the red circle and bend it around to make a wide cone. Staple it together. Attach the cone to the cardboard tube with rubber cement. Complete the rocket by cutting long streamers of crepe paper and attaching them to the bottom of the rocket with rubber cement or staples. Decorate the rocket as desired!

Red,White and Blue Windsock

red construction paper
red-white-blue streamers
glue
hole punch
string or yarn
decorative items

Have the child decorate one side of the red piece of paper with stars, glitter, ripped up tissue paper, markers, etc. Then glue the short ends of a red piece of construction paper together so the decorated side is showing. Glue or staple red white and blue streamers all around the bottom, making them as long as you wish. Then punch two or three holes at the top of the windsock, and attach string to hang.

Uncle Sam

toilet paper roll
poster board
star stickers
cotton balls
eyes
nose
mouth
hole punch
string

Cut out a circle of poster board about 3 1/2 inches around. Cut out a circle in the center of it the same diameter as the toilet paper roll. Slip on the poster board circle onto the toilet paper roll. This is Uncle Sam's hat. Glue some eyes, a nose and a mouth to make a face underneath the hat. Glue cotton balls to make a beard and hair. Stick some glittery star stickers on the hat and brim. Punch two holes in the top of the hat and tie some string on to hang it up. Very patriotic!

Fun 'n Safe Sparklers

1 drinking straw
5 shiny chenille stems
tape (optional)

Simply insert chenille stems about 3" on one end of a drinking straw. Secure with tape to the straw. Fold over tips of stems to prevent poking someone. Flare out stems, and let the kids wave them proudly. Happy 4th!

Scoop of Love

Laundry detergent scoops
either conversation hearts or Hershey's Kisses or Hugs

Wash and dry scoops well. Fill the scoops with choice of candies, cover with celophane (sp?) and tie with bow, add a message on a heart shape tag which reads...

For conversation hearts "A scoop full of love for you from ...."
For Hershey's kisses "A scoop full of kisses ..."
For Hershey's Hugs - You get the idea!

You can also add ribbons and stickers for added decoration!

Father's Day Tie

cardboard
felt
safetypin
glue
fabric paint
buttons

You need to make a necktie pattern out of cardboard. You can trace a tie for this as if it were lying flat already tied. Or you may draw your own. After you draw and cut it out you need to trace it on to a solid color felt, and cut it out. Attatch a pint to the top back. This will be where dad or grandpa(or other make Father figure) will attatch to their shirt. Have the children color with fabric paint or glue on items such as buttons

Embroidered Card

pencil
needle
card
thread
yarn or embroidery thread

Take a blank card and with a pencil lightly draw a design on the cover of your card (flowers for mother's day or a baseball for father's day) Or you can just go over part of the design on a ready made card. Take the needle with the color you want on it use the thread/yarn to trace your design. If small children are doing this project have an adult poke the holes first and give the child a plastic yarn needle to use.

*NOTE~You can made card from posterboard.*

Baby-food Jar Tea-Light Holder

babyfood jars
tissue paper
paint brushes
glue

Water down some glue and paint onto the babyfood jars. Apply cut-up pieces (about 1cm x 1cm) of tissue paper onto the glue and then paint another coat of glue over the tissue paper. Pop in a tealight candle and you're done!! This is an easy project that kids can do by themselves that also turns out to be of gift-quality.

CD Case Picture Frame Craft

What you need:
Empty CD case, ribbon, buttons, puzzle pieces, shells, etc, wrapping paper or fun foam, glue.

What to do:
Use empty CD cases to make cute picture frames. Just decorate the front of the case with wide ribbon, buttons puzzle pieces, shells, etc. Insert a pretty piece of wrapping paper or a piece of fun foam as a border. Glue a wallet sized picture in the center of the border. Close case and glue on a piece of ribbon as a hanger.

Sew a felt heart onto fun foam, cut out a heart shape and stitched around the edge with embroidery floss, sewed on some buttons, and wrote the date when the picture was taken. All it needs now is some ribbon to hang it up. I didn't glue any thing on the outside.
