The Materials Involved

This is somewhere between 3 and 5 yards (can't remember which) of plain natural cotton muslin. Cheap, but essential for making a good pattern. Even if the pattern wasn't made from this material, it is still called a "muslin." Cost = about $8 ($1.99/yard)

This is the leather hide I'll be using. It's about 40 square feet, and just enough to make the jacket. Just remember, measure three times, cut once! This set me back a mere $50 + S&H from the good folks at myleathershop on eBay.

Here is a good close-up of the leather's top-grain and the underside. The texture of the top-grain leather is almost identical to most popular leather jackets of high quality. It is European top-grain navy blue leather. Great price, great leather. Try it, you'll like it. ^_^;

This is the polyester lining. It's cling-free and static-resistant. About $3/yd for 4 yards, so not too bad.

Here's the bitchy polyester batting. It's really bitchy. The thinnest I could locate, about 3/16". Don't remember how much this was, but I only got 1.5 yards, since it's 108" wide! (that means it's quilter's batting...) Let's just say my machine didn't like four layers of leather, two of batting, and two of lining all at once. o_O

Onto the Measuring!
