Acquiring equipment - Much of what I'm recommending here can be located by visiting the resources section at http://www.authentic-campaigner.com/resources.htm or by visiting http://www.skilletlicker.com/

Forage Caps - We're going to ask everyone to bring a forage cap for this event as Albion Tourgee's history of the 105th clearly states that they threw their 'caps' into the air. Unfortunately we have been unable to locate original equipment issues so we'll have to rely on Albion's post-war history. Please plan to bring a forage cap for this event.
  1. So Called Type-I forage cap
  2. So Called Type-II forage cap
Recommended forage cap makers (listed in no particular order)::
  1. Paul Smith
  2. Greg Starbuck
  3. Don Smith
  4. Chris Semanick
  5. Dirty Billy
Sack Coats - As mentioned above, we've been unable to locate the original issue records so we are not sure what they were wearing on that August day in 1862. It could have been state jackets and yes it could have been frocks. Tourgee gives us no hints. We're choosing the sack coat as our coat for Crabill House. The reason being, since we have no historical record to rely upon, we want to do the best with what we have. We know they were all new troops, and all issued at once. If we all wear sack coats, we can at least look synonymous.

We have no idea muchless what pattern their coats may have been on. We're going to recommend one of the following patterns, preferably newer in apperance:
  1. J.T. Martin
  2. Schuykyl Arsenal

Recommended sack coat makers (listed in no particular order):
  1. Nick Sekela
  2. Pat Brown
  3. Chris Daley
  4. Matt Caldwell
  5. John Wedeward
There are really too many to name, but these are some fine examples of the kind of quality we are looking for.

Trousers - Again no clue on what maker. We're looking for quality sky-blues preferably newer in appearance.

Recommended trouser makers (listed in no particular order):
  1. Matt Caldwell
  2. Chris Sullivan
  3. Nick Sekela
  4. Chris Daley
  5. Pat Brown
Shirt - Preferably we'd want everyone in an issue shirt, and as you may know Chris Daley plans to do an issue shirt Bully Buy this spring. We hope you'll all try to get in on that Bully Buy and get yourself a quality shirt for this event and others.
  1. Federal Issue Shirt
  2. Civilian Shirt
Recommended shirt makers (listed in no particular order):
  1. Nick Sekela
  2. Chris Daley
  3. Ted Quednau
  4. Matt Caldwell
Drawers - I'll let you choose your own drawers, but I like the style with the pear shaped opening at the crotch. You tuck your shirt down inside your shorts and make a nice little 'pocket' for your junk. It all works and is rather comfortable. If you're wearing an issue shirt, there may be an issue of scratchiness against your johnnies... I suppose thats all a matter of personal wool-tolerance.
  1. Nick Sekela
  2. Ted Quednau
  3. Matt Caldwell
  4. Chris Daley
  5.
Socks - Non-elastic socks.
  1. Mickey Black
  2. Kathy Kleiman
Shoes -
  1. Missouri Boot & Shoe
  2. MJN
  3. Mattimore Harness - The Progressive
  4. Dave Jarnagin - His "Hardcore" shoes
Rifle - Make sure you bring a bayonet. We're not going to hold you at the door for not bringing a Springfield, but from what we can tell, they did have Springfields. Please try not to bring a pumpkin slinger if you can avoid it.
  1. Springfield
  2. Enfield
Accoutrements - My big concern here, and my mission in life is to get everyone away from their junk leathers and into a good set of early war. I like a 61 model cartridge box and a CS Storms pouch. The 64/65 cartridge boxes are so easy to spot because they have that rivet right on the outside flap (under the shield.)
  1. Butch Myers
  2. Missouri Booth & Shoe
  3. Dave Jarnagin
  4. L.D. Haning
Haversack -
  1. Chris Daley
  2. Haversack Depot
  3. Nick Sekela
  4. Pat Brown
Canteen - We're looking for smoothside canteens covered in brown or tan jean cloth. No blue covers please. Also, We'd like to see everyone with hemp twine rather then a jack chain.
  1. Skillet Licker
  2. Orchard Hill

Blanket - I've always believe the blanket was one of the most important items in your impression, behind your hat and your coat. Get a good, regulation sized blanket and you will never regret it.
  1. Charlie Childs
  2. Woodburn/Mount
  3. Abe Thomas
  4. Wisconsins Vets
