My First Cabbage Patch Kid

Last Updated: November 10, 2002

Hi! This is Parol (a hybrid of Carol cause a wanted a girl and Patrick)! He is a #2 OK 1985 coleco boy! The only part of his original outfit I am missing is his light pink jacket..*sigh* Okay I was 6 or 7 when I got him. My parents had already gone through so much begging that they had dreams of me pleading for a cabbage patch kid. Ha ha! So they took me to a "Howies" down my street (I guess its similar to a Walmart type of store). They had a lot of people there waiting and when we were let in (seems like cattle) all the kids' were on the floor. I guess the store didn't bother to put them on shelves as they would be snatched up very quickly. Anyhow, I was late in getting there and Parol was left. I literally dove through the plastic window of those pretty boxes and grabbed him, not knowing that he was still attached! *sigh* Well, my parents bought him and I "adopted" him. My parents were so relived that I was happy that they chucked the box and papers before we got home. I never knew his real name. I didn't care though...I had just adopted my first cabbage patch kid!

Hi! My sister Jill and I sort of got into cpks together! Our older sister Jackie was working at Kmart when the cpk craze hit in 1983 and she reserved a cpk for each of us! I was six and Jill was seven at the time. We began semi-seriously collecting last year when we saw the cpk videos and remembered how cute they were. We currently have forty dolls in our collection between the two of us -- Jill has thirty and I have about ten. We love our kids!

I received my first cpk which was a boy on christmas, my mom lined outside Canadian Tire before the store was even open to buy it for me and his name is PJ.

Hello this is Helen! From left to right, my kiddies in the crib are Henryetta (my first cpk in original clothing, her hair still smells just as fresh as when I first got her many, many years ago), Anna (my UK Cpk, made by Jesmar in Spain, shes got freckles! She is named after Anne of Green Gables), Krista (my Koosa), and Timmy (my preemie, bought with my own christmas money). In front are my wrinkles too. There is Granny Grey, Ginger, Ogleby (baby), and Flash Gordon. Thats me in my dorm in the UK. "Taken by surprise" by my dorm mate.

When I was 8 or 9 I sold Christmas cards and wrapping paper to get Brian (bald boy on right). This was before the "craze" ever started. Hattie (red head) was purchased by my parents the Christmas the "craze" was on. I was one of the lucky few who had rainchecks that actually got their kids by Christmas. Cleo (aqua baby) was purchased at babyland general the summer we went to Florida. I was 12. My dad drove 3 1/2 hours out of the way to take me there. It is one of my favorite memories as a child. The rest of my babies are fairly recent acquisitions. My real soft sculptures are very special to me. My dad wanted so badly to buy me one at Babyland General, but we couldn't afford $200.00, so he bought me Cleo instead! (Dads are great). Carrie Simpson & real kid Caleb

This is Lisa-Maree DeFranco. She's from Melbourne, Australia and has 28 cabbage patch kids. Pictured in the photo is her favourite kid, Chrissy Julie. Lisa-Maree is in her bedroom, if you look behind her there is another cpk. Not pictured is a shelf of mini cpks. Her message to all is Keep Collecting!

I got my first CPK when I was almost 3. It was in 1985 and the "CPK Hype" had gone down a bit. My Aunt had been trying to get me one for a few months and finally came across one in August of '85. She was planning on giving it to me for Christmas but I somehow "wandered" into the garage where it was hidden and drug it into the house. My Aunt didn't want to take her away from me so she let me open her. It was a #4 headmold girl with blue eyes and 2 red braids. Her name was Pearlie Emma. I no longer have her birth certificate but I do remember her full name and she still sits in the middle of my bed =)

Meet Alessia from Italy

This is Alessia from ITALY! She adopted Kimberly Annie (she's holding her!) from CPKfamily's readoption room! Alessia has since adopted many other beautiful kids all over the world! Wouldn't it be appropriate for Alessia to have a early cpk doll from Italy? We all know they exist! Perhaps one day she'll get them! Happy Collecting in Italy!
The names from left up: Joanie Yvonne, Adam Collen, Kimberly Annie, Lonnie Nicholas, Amy Emmeline;
Second row, from left: Phoebe Aileen, Jordan Bingham, Patricia Marie, Alexia Ycca, Nelson Delmer;
Preemie from left: Bernard Luke, Chandler Stuart, Dudley Craig.
The " Pin Up " in Italy they call " Minidolls "! From left: Carlotta, Valentino, Guendalina.
What's so cute about Alessia is that she's always apologizing for her "poor English." I think its just fine. How else do you expect her to have such a cute collection? Telepathy? Thanks Alessia!

Please note that I would love to have your submissions emailed to me and a jpg picture please. Or snail mailed to me and I can scan them and return your photo. I hope to have this page full of other cpk stories that can be shared! Thanks for looking! If you are going to submit a story please title the email "My first cpk" and I will post it asap. Thanks !!
