The Over 40's

In 1985, Peter Clarke, a long standing and successful playing member of the club, and its current Honorary President, conceived an idea which has been, perhaps, one of the most well received of all in the development of Cowichan's activities. He envisaged teams, essentially made up of older players, competing mid-week. Thus the Cowichan XL (popularly known as the "Over-Forties") came into being. Their opponents travel mostly from Vancouver to play at the Elford Road ground in Shawnigan Lake. These are friendly games and enjoyed by all. 1994 saw the Cowichan XL's on tour in New Zealand and taking part in the Christchurch "Golden Oldies Tournament".

Thanks are due, to Mr Ian Young of Victoria, for all his efforts to ensure the continuing success of this venture. So thank-you, Ian. And thanks, Peter Clarke, Peter Brett and Howard, and all who make summer mid-weeks a cricket-fest at Shawnigan Lake.
