January 30, 2006:The Cow-Covered Journal's back, and maybe this time we'll actually follow through with some updates. There are 2 new features: the Jim Smith Archives, a collection of the most ridiculous old stuff, and Xamining Xanga, a look at some of the worst web journals and blogs online. Keep watching for more new content. August 16, 2005: Beginning tomorrow, the CCJ staff will be on an annual vacation until the 28th. Sadly, that means no new articles until then, but it's a great chance to work on some reader submissions! (Or, just complain about us being gone. Your call.) CCJ all the way. August 13, 2005: Guess what time it is! That's right, it's time for the annual completely ignored post about reader-submitted articles. What fun, right? Anyway, if you've written something you deem CCJ-worthy, or even have a concept for an article, send it to us. Chances are good (read 100%) that we will use it on the site. You know the drill: if you wrote it, .doc, .html, or .txt; if it's a picture, .jpg, .gif, or .bmp. Attach it to an e-mail and send to [email protected]. Thanks for possibly saving us some work. If you want to see what this can accomplish, check out the Cap'n Jimmy's series on the Articles Page. Ethan Shantie supplied the concept and helped with the ad copy and images, and we ended up with a first-rate article. An unrelated note: The guestbook is back up, and accessible by clicking the link on the left. (Surprisingly enough, it's the one labeled "Guestbook". Jot us a quick note letting us know how you feel about the site. Thanks in advance, and keep reading. August 9, 2005: The natives were getting restless, so we've posted an old favorite (The Croons article) and promised new content soon. And we're actually not lying this time. (Seriously.) So enjoy that classic CCJ flavor and keep checking back. July 20, 2005: Updates, both new and old material, are pouring in. Check it all out on the Articles page, and look for more coming very soon. In all the excitement of the relaunching, we forgot to mention Jonny Willer's Blog. Created by frequent CCJ contributor Jon Willer, the blog has a very different style from The Cow-Covered Journal -- more cantankerous social commentary than parody/satire -- but CCJ readers have responded enthusiastically. It's worth taking a look at. Anyway, keep reading. There's more great stuff on the way! July 17, 2005: Still cow-covered after all these years. You're looking at the new Cow-Covered Journal. And when we say "new," we mean it. We've rebuilt the site from the ground up. Allow us to explain with a long, boring story. The online Cow-Covered Journal was originally created in 2003. We had practically no knowledge of web page coding, and a lot of the old stuff (and even some of the new stuff) turned out sub-standard. We've been playing around with the layout a lot, but it became clear that a total overhaul was necessary. And so, we're reposting revised versions of the old articles, as well as a lot of new stuff, hoping that it'll be a better reading experience. Now that we know what we're doing, you can expect much better quality from the Journal. There's lots of exciting things going on. More regular updates, better design, and the long-promised CCJ Defenders II are all on the way. Who knows, maybe we'll even buy a domain name. Anyway, keep reading and remember: CCJ All The Way! |
