Remembering September 11th, 2001
by Mari Massey
How will you celebrate and remember the tradegy of September 11, 2001? Can you see the truth about terrorism - that it is bred in hatred and its purpose is to bring fear that paralyzes? We have been a country that forgets. We forgot the holocaust and the other tragic wars we fought. We fought those wars because evil men triumphed in our world. Now we become the ones who remember with united hearts, everywhere in this dear land, the Falling of our Angels in this world.

In my childhood, there was the President Kennedy assasination. I was small, but I knew this was a devastating time for my country. I remember the funeral. I remember the pain inside my heart and the weeping of my Mother. I remember. I do not forget the loss.

In this generation, it will be the Falling Twin Towers. So, how do I personnally intend to defeat the death and destruction that came on that fatal day that we are each remembering in our own special way?

I choose to LIVE and TO CELEBRATE LIFE and to remember the fallen as if they were the ones on the front lines of the war. You see, someone else made them the fallen ones of the war. Someone else chose to end their lives and to make them the brunt of their assault. And so I mourn for the loss of the lives of good people in my world.

Yet, what can my life give back? What can I really DO to stop this insanity? I choose to forgive the debts of others against me. I choose to let the sinners in my life go free. I choose to embrace the pain that others caused me and to let it go. I choose to stop the hatred of my own heart that it might not reflect in the hearts of evil men of war. I choose to celebrate life and family and come to a place of peace in my heart that peace might live in the hearts of evil men.

Evil will be stopped at the gates of our country because we are warriors of the eagle. We can see far and we will triumph over the evil of hatred. What would happen to the world if we as American Citizens decided on 9/11 to declare a day of forgiving debts? What would happen if every court case was settled out of court on 9/11? What would happen if every person secretly nursing a grudge against another human being gave it up? Imagine if we as people all over the world would forgive our debtors and let LOVE live in our hearts and we chose to celebrate LIFE instead of mourning death? What would happen if all the wars in the world decided to cease during the day of 9/11 and stop fighting?

Can you imagine a world where peace reigned? Is it really so difficult? I am reminded of an old time saying during the prayer for revival in the old churches of America and England. The preachers would ask the congregation to draw a circle around themselves and Pray this prayer Lord, start the revival that our church is praying for and start it in me! So I would say to myself Child, let the peace that I want to see reign on the earth, start in me. Only then will I start to love and forgive and to celebrate and remember the tradegy of 9/11.

For those whose lives were lost in the first wave of the attack I say Thank You for being brave and laying down your lives for this great country. You rallied this Nation into unity in a way that nothing else could. Thank You for the greatest sacrifice you could give our nation, the sacrifice of your life, and let me never forget the gift you gave on 9/11. May your name be engraved on the hearts of our Country and may your lives not be taken in vain as I, as an American Citizen celebrate not your death but your Life and your triumph over the evil that came against you. I celebrate what you were as a human being and I celebrate the people you left behind as a tribute to your legacy that You were an American who knew that you could leave this world in good hands. So I CELEBRATE instead of mourning what evil men expected me to mourn. I celebrate and ask that others join with me in celebrating by remembering the goodness of the people who died and celebrate their life instead of their tragic death. Tell the stories of their lives and how they lived instead of how they died. And remember to LIVE!
